To say that 2020 has been a year to remember is an understatement. We’ve all had to adapt to a new way of life and that can be quite upsetting to our routine.
Having a routine keeps me grounded. I have worked from home and homeschooled our children for years, so keeping a routine and remaining organised is key in our house.

We have shielded throughout the pandemic as my husband is a heart transplant recipient, so we’ve pretty much cut ourselves off from the outside world. Like many others, getting back into a routine after lockdown feels quite daunting to us. Here are just a few ways that we have found useful for easing back into a routine after a lockdown.

Taking It Slowly

I am in no rush to expose my family to busy environments. We are taking our time to adjust and that’s OK. Outdoor spaces are our go-to for enjoyment at the moment and will be for the foreseeable. I have a few National Trust visits planned which we will most probably enjoy a picnic whilst there.

Start Planning Things you Want To Do

In times like these, I think we all need something to look forward to, just a little something to keep our hopes up.
Saying that we have put our main holiday on hold this year, partly because we just didn’t feel comfortable, worrying about social distancing and if Craig would be safe and so on.
So instead of feeling down about it, I’m looking into other avenues and what else we can enjoy. Perhaps a nice self-catered cottage break or a lodge somewhere picturesque.
We have lots of places to visit on our to-do list and after a bit of research, they all have social distancing measures in place which is a huge comfort to us.

Making Time For Exercise

It wasn’t until the lockdown that I realised I really need to exercise more. We go out for family walks almost daily, but I do need to up my game when it comes to fitness. I’ve started to get up earlier and go out with the dog first thing but, to be honest, I’m not one for the gym and never have been. I have joined a couple in the past but have soon lost interest. I have been giving some serious thought into hiring a personal trainer.  That way I can train outdoors while having some professional support. You could find a personal trainer near you if that’s something you would like to try out or perhaps you love the gym!

Stay In Touch With Friends And Family

A simple thing as having a chat or a video call on the phone to friends and family has cheered us up no end of times during lockdown. If you are feeling overwhelmed about getting back out there, chat to a friend or family member. Having some support can lighten the load a little.

Be Kind To Yourself

What’s right for one person isn’t necessarily right for another. Do what feels best for you. I’ve popped a few useful numbers below that offer support should you need it.

  1. We have taken it slowly too since lockdown lifted and had to postpone our holiday until next year. The sunny weather has helped and keeping in touch with family and friends 🙂

  2. Being with my family and knowing they’re safe is keeping me going. FaceTime is the best thing ever for keeping in touch with family we can’t visit x
