We have always been massive fans of Rubik’s. Craig and I had hours of fun with them when we were growing up, and we have been fortunate to be part of the Rubiks blogger panel too. This has allowed us to find out all about the new products that Rubik’s have to offer. Rubik’s has been evolving over the last few years and have released a lot of variations on the original Rubik’s cube. We have tried out the 2 x 2 cube, the junior range and the new improved original Rubik’s cube. This year, John Adams are launching the #summerscrambles campaign. There are some fantastic new ideas for children and adults alike.
Rubik’s Cage
The cage is exactly that, a cage that holds individual coloured cubies. You take turns to drop the cubies into the cage. The first player that gets three in a row wins. Sounds easy? Wrong! You can twist layers of the cube just like a regular Rubik’s to rearrange the cubies, or you can flip the cage over, making the cubies move around inside. This is fantastic fun and allows you to play with your friends. Fab for taking away on holiday with you!
Rubik’s Edge
The Rubik’s Edge is a cube that is aimed at the beginner. This is much easier to solve than the 2×2 or the 3×3 cubes but gives a fantastic introduction into the wonderful world of Rubik’s. Just because it only has nine cubes though, don’t think that it is simple. There are still a mindbending 192 combinations of the cube!
Rubik’s Orbit
This is the newest and perhaps most innovative variation of the Rubik’s cube. Based around the 2×2 cube, the Rubik’s Orbit has a completely different feel to it. It takes a different mindset to solve compared to the cube puzzles, however, it is just as addictive.
Rubik’s Block
Rubik’s Block is quite similar to the traditional 3×3 cube. The difference is that each of the segments is a different size so it is only a cube when it is solved. This makes it much more difficult to figure out and it really is a mind-bender.
Rubik’s Match
Rubik’s Match is a card-based game for 2 – 4 players. The rules are really simple and it is great fun for all ages. There are four sets of 12 cubie cards (one for each player) which have a picture of one Rubik’s cubie on. There are three levels of match cards, one being the easiest and three being the most difficult. Each player has their cubie cards in front of them face up. The selected challenge cards are placed in the middle of the table face down. When everyone is ready, the top challenge card is turned over and the players’ race to arrange their cubie cards in the pattern on the challenge card. The first to match the pattern correctly gets the challenge card. The first one to collect three challenge cards wins the match.
Rubik’s 3×3
With a phenomenal 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 combinations, this is the original Rubik’s cube. Invented in 1974 by the Hungarian professor Ernõ Rubik. With over 450 million 3×3 cubes sold worldwide, this original is still a hugely popular puzzle for all ages.

I loved rubiks cubes, never could do it, but I spent hours trying as a child. Good to see they are back and challenging children again x #MMBC
Rubick’s Cubes are those types of toys that never go out of fashion and I love that the range keeps developing. Both my kids want an original cube for Christmas but I think they would like the Orbit too. #MMBC
Oh wow! I didn’t realise there were so many spin off’s of the Rubik’s cube! These all look like fantastic fun and it looks like there is something for all ages x
I was not very good at the original Robin’s so I’d like to try my hand at some of these to see if I can do some of the simpler ones or if I am any better! #MMBC

It’s fabulous to have variations on the original toy. I never mastered the technique but perhaps could manage one of the new ones.

I have never been able to solve the Rubiks cube. I am wondering if I might be more successful with the Rubik’s Edge!
