I hope you are enjoying summer so far, albeit a very wet one here! I’m starting to forget what it’s like to have a sunny day.
With that said, We’ve been sharing some fun toys and activities for the kids to enjoy over the holidays and it’s a good job this week’s feature can be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors! Here’s what we thought of the Melissa & Doug Let’s Explore Fishing Play set.
You may want to check out our previous feature, Trampoline Tennis! Which is a brilliant game for outdoors play.
Melissa & Doug Let’s Explore Fishing Set
We love Melissa & Doug toys and have had quite a few over the years. They are so well thought out, built to last and most importantly, lots of fun!
This lovely roleplay toy has everything little anglers need to explore and learn all about fishing.
What you get in the play set
- 2 x wooden rods with reels
- 6 x double sided wooden fish
- 4 x play worms in a pouch
- A fishing guide
- Fishing background
- A Medallion
- License
- A ruler
- A net
- A carry case
The Let’s Explore Fishing Play Set is fab for both indoor and outdoor play. Kids can choose to fish in winter or summer with a flip of the reversible fishing mat.
Using the guide, little ones can record their catch by filling in the stats for each fish caught. There is also a little wooden ruler included for measuring the length of each fish.
The guide is resusable and wipeable so it can be used time and time again.
Games like these are brilliant for practising fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination. Kids have to concentrate and manipulate the miniature rods to hook and loop the fish.
This is especially beneficial for my autistic son who can struggle with gripping things in the correct way on occasion.
Let’s Explore Fishing Play Set Is such a fun activity for the kids to do. They can even pack it all up in the small carry case and take it along on trips and holidays.

I like that it is made out of wood so will last time!
Fab 0 love melissa and doug toys!
This looks like fun and great for developing skills. We have something similar at the preschool where I work, except it’s magnetic and much smaller. This wooden one would be much better!
