We love playing board games in our house and we are very lucky to be part of the Asmodee blogger board game club. We get to discover new board games and this time we have been reviewing the Colt Express game.
Colt Express is a game for two to six players. The recommended age is 10+ and each game takes around 40 minutes to play. The game is based around a train travelling through the wild west that is being raided by bandits. The aim of the game is to be the richest bandit at the end of the round.

The first time you play, you will have to build the train cars. This is easy to do as there are detailed illustrated instructions. The pieces are all pre-cut from sheets of card, you carefully push the components out and assemble them. Be aware though that it took us around 40 minutes before we could play the first game. Once you have assembled the cars though, there are compartments in the box to store them so you only build them once.

Each player chooses a character, takes the corresponding character sheet, action cards and bullet cards. You then randomly choose five round cards. Each round has two phases. For the first phase, the schemin phase, you turn over the top round card, this indicates how many turns, you then play your action card according to the instructions on the round card. Once everyone has played, the actions are acted out. This is phase two of the round and is called the stealing phase. You continue through the deck of round cards, at the end of the game, the richest bandit wins.

The game is quite easy to get the hang of and is enjoyable for all of the family. Once you have played the game a few times there are additional sets of rules, character powers and events to mix the game up and keep the gameplay interesting. There is also a selection of expansion packs to add more fun to this fab game.

Another helpful review. Thank you. My first thought about having to build the train cars was one of disappointment. However, children need to know how to follow instructions to build things when they are adults so they might as well start young!
I think this game would have been exciting to me as a child, and I like the way it looks. Nowadays, I don’t find bandits very appealing, but back in the days of watching Lucky Luke etc, I think I would have like this! x #MMBC
Hadn’t heard of this one! Sounds fun to play!
