Random acts of kindness. A lady giving a gift whilst wearing her Christmas jumper

It’s that time of year when we are all rushing around and making plans for the big day.
However, it’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget to appreciate the little things. To the less fortunate, December is just another month and wouldn’t it be nice if we could make just a small difference to someone’s day?
So with that said, I’ve put together some random acts of kindness that you could easily fit into your daily routine.

It’s nice to be nice and I think after the past couple of years we’ve all had, we could all do with a little kindness in our lives.

Random Acts Of Kindness In December

  1. Donate some items to a local charity.
  2. Treat the postman for all the hard work throughout the year. I know we keep ours super busy!
  3. Buy someone a hot chocolate.
  4. Get a couple of extra tins on your food shop and donate to a food bank.
  5. Hold the door for others.
  6. Smile when you pass someone by.
  7. Let somebody go in front of you in a queue.
  8. Pass the time of day with somebody whilst you’re out and about. You never know you might be the first person they have spoken to all week!
  9. Give your time by volunteering at a homeless shelter.
  10. Take some food or blankets to a local animal shelter.
  11. Cook an extra dinner for someone who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone.
  12. Make suet cakes and bird feeders for the wildlife.
  13. Give a handmade craft to someone. If you can crochet or knit, perhaps make a hat and mittens for an older neighbour.
  14. Put out/get in your neighbour’s wheelie bins.
  15. Do some litter picking.
  16. Adopt an animal online to help with its upkeep. Perhaps adopt a donkey? You can even go and visit them throughout the year.
  17. When doing your Christmas shopping, if a member of staff has been helpful then praise them to their boss. I have friends who work in retail and with December being the busiest time of year, they are under so much more stress! A little appreciation goes a long way.
  18. Look after a friend’s pet if they are going away for the holidays or keep an eye on their home for them.
  19. Send someone some snail mail. A surprise in the post is always nice.
  20. Make someone a thank you card.
  21. Send a bouquet of flowers to cheer someone up.
  22. Give your time to someone.
  23. Spread some kindness online.
  24. Donate some books to the library.
  25. Buy a friend dinner.
  26. Bake a cake for someone.
  27. Buy a treat for your refuse collectors.

Do you do any of the above?

  3. That’s a lovely list of ideas for ways to be kind over the festive period. I’m taking part in a reverse advent calendar, adding one item for the food bank to a box each day in November and then donating the contents at the start of December this year. #MMBC

  4. Some brilliant ideas, I think some of them come naturally to decent people and some take that bit more of an effort, I’m going to try to do more

  5. Your post and lovely suggestions pulled at my heart strings! So many ideas with so little effort and cost for such a positive outcome. Wonderful!

  6. These are lovely ideas! I definitely buy an extra bag of non-perishables and drop in out grocery stores bin for the needy several times a year but especially during the holiday season as so many food banks have a hard time keeping up with the demand this time of year. I’m actually feeling pretty good that I could tick several of these off as having them these past few weeks.
