Planning A Family Holiday To Remember

The summer holidays are here and many of us have already been away or currently planning a holiday with family.
Since Craig had his heart transplant, we have so much more to tick off our lists before we head off on a break away.
We have to make sure that he has an ample supply of meds. It is imperative that we have enough supplies for the duration of our stay as Craig must take his 42 tablets daily! There are also other things like if his hands get sore (the meds affect his bones so he now has mild arthritis). If his hands start to hurt, he will need his injections and his heat gloves.

We still have an amazing time away with a little forward planning. Here are some things to think of if you are planning a holiday with friends or loved ones. Perhaps they require some little extra’s to accommodate their needs whilst away.

Check Out The Facilities

Majority of places have a full breakdown of facilities on-site via their website. Should you have a wheelchair user coming along then it would pay to do a little research before booking up. Have they got ramps? Is there a wheelchair-friendly lift? Dietary requirements may be something you need to consider. Check out their menu’s and inquire to see if they cater for a specific diet.

Live By A List!

I love my lists and make them for everything! I can tick things off as I deal with each to-do on and make sure that I don’t forget anything. With two very loud and boisterous boys at home, it is really easy to get sidetracked and forget something. If you are a parent then I’m sure you can relate!

Hire Mobility Aids

There are some fab companies where you can hire wheelchair accessible vehicles for your duration away. Also, if you are heading to the beach you can hire a wheelchair that can deal with the sandy terrain. Everybody should be able to dip their toes in the sea when visiting the beach!
Communication barriers shouldn’t be a problem either as many countries have translation services where there will most probably be someone who speaks your native language.

Do you have a holiday planned?

  1. My little grandson has Autisum which makes planing a holiday difficult as he has to keep to his routine, days out are ok but trying to get him to sleep in a different bed is so distressing for him
