I am sure that we are all glad to see the back of 2020! Whoever could have predicted what we would all have to endure this time last year? Just as Christmas was a little different to usual, most of us will be having a slightly different way of welcoming in the new year. The majority of the country is in tier three or four so there are no pubs or clubs open, which means that for most, celebrations will be with people in our support bubbles in the safety of our own homes. Now, we have had many epic New Years Eve parties at our house. We’ve never really bothered going out on New Year’s Eve so this year will be business as usual for us. So I thought I would let you in on a few ways that we entertain ourselves on a New Years Eve.
Play family games
We love playing family board games and have such a laugh doing so. Games such as escape rooms, Cobra Paw, Beasts of Balance, Who’s the Dude? And if you have an Alexa then I can highly recommend When in Rome. All of these types of games get the whole family involved, both young and old.

Make a buffet
My boys love it when I do a little party spread for them. We have lots of little nibbles on the table and everyone can just help themselves to what they want. I normally get snacky bits like crisps, sausage rolls and some meaty bites such as popcorn chicken, bbq ribs and chicken goujons. The kids love dips too so I get a variety of those and make my easy salsa dip that they go mad for!

Have a movie night
We have movie nights regularly at our house, not just on New Year. You can make it extra special for the kids and get some *popcorn cartons. I recently got some from Amazon for £5.99. Fill them with your favourite popcorn. If you know what you plan on watching you could do a themed night and print off some tickets and stick some wraps around some paper cups with characters from the film.
I do a monthly round-up of what to watch on TV that might give you a few ideas.

Host A Virtual Party On Zoom
After the year we have had, it’s no wonder we are all reaching for technology to be able to see our friends and family virtually. Why not host a party online and invite your loved ones. You could all get to together online for a chat and drinks or you could perhaps plan a murder mystery night or even a quiz.
Create A Home Spa Day
Not a fan of New Years celebrations? Create a homemade spa for a chilled out time at home. Treat yourself to a hot bubble bath, a facial or a foot scrub and spend the whole day in your pyjamas. This is definitely one of my favourite ways to spend New Year’s Eve.
Memory Jars and Wish Jars
Perhaps you have a jar that you post fun memories in throughout the year. Then you could get together as a family and read through them all. You could also make a wish jar of all the activities and places you would like to visit in the upcoming year.
Wishing you a very happy new year. I hope that next year sees us beating Covid so that we can get back to being safe, seeing our friends and generally enjoying life.
Also sending love to those who have already suffered loss because of this awful virus.
We always stay home and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We have a party tea with much of the same as you do and we are planning to play board games. I have promised not to take the huff when the kids start cheating at Monopoly. lol
Happy new year! Wishing you all the best for 2019 x
I actually enjoy staying in on New Year’s with the family. I’m not one for all fuss people make about it. A movie night with the kids, a buffet and then watching the fireworks in London on telly with the OH is pretty much our perfect night in
I agree. I’d rather spend the time with my children. Never been big on new year celebration. Nice idea to theme the movie night. Hope you all had a lovely time. Hope 2019 is a brilliant year for you all. #MMBC

We did some baking, crafting and a quiet night watching movies, Happy New Year!
That sounds lovely. Happy new year to you too!
we always stay home as we are not fans of new years eve
We had a movie night. Not big on going out on New Year’s Eve, so it was business as usual. I really ought to get better at doing buffets at home. Maybe next time! #mmbc
I’ve been staying home so much that the New Year was just another day. Usually my family comes down from Michigan for Christmas and New Year. Of course not this year. I read a lovely book and had cookies. All in all not a bad time. Stay safe and healthy dear Jayne! #MMBC
happy new year to everyone
Happy Mew Year. We had a quiet Christmas and New Year, just the three of us. We still managed to have fun though.
