Witches' Brew pea soup with crispy bacon served in a Halloween cauldron mug.

I love Halloween! I always decorate the house for the kids too, although things are a little tamer these days than they were before having children!
One of my favourite Halloween traditions is having a little party at home, with plenty of snacks and drinks. And with the weather getting colder, I thought it would be nice to have something warm and comforting on the menu this year.
So, I decided to make this Pea Soup Recipe! It’s quick and easy to make, and that lovely green colour makes it perfect for Halloween. Especially when served in little cauldron mugs!

I bought four Witches’ Brew Cauldron Mugs for our soup, and I love them! They are the perfect size for kids and adults alike, with plenty of room to dig into your steamy green broth with a big old spoon.

Can You Make Pea Soup Ahead of Time?

Absolutely! If you’re planning a Halloween party and want to get some of the cooking out of the way beforehand, this soup is a handy one to prepare in advance. Make the soup as normal, but leave off the crispy bacon until you’re ready to serve. Allow it to cool, then pop it into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
When you’re ready to eat, reheat the soup thoroughly until piping hot, giving it a good stir as it warms through. Cook your bacon separately and sprinkle it over the top just before serving.

Can You Freeze Pea Soup?

Yes! This pea soup freezes well, so you can make a batch and save some for another day.
Leave the bacon topping off and allow the soup to cool before transferring it into freezer-safe containers. Freeze for up to three months for best quality.
Defrost overnight in the fridge and reheat until piping hot. You might need to add a splash of water or stock if the soup has thickened.

Ingredients

  • 545g petit pois (frozen peas)

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic puree
