According to dentists, one of the most essential habits for maintaining good oral hygiene is cleaning between the teeth. In the UK, 31% of adults suffer from tooth decay, and 66% have visible plaque, yet these figures could be significantly lowered simply by introducing interdental cleaning into daily routines.

Despite its importance for healthy teeth and gums, only around a quarter of adults clean between their teeth regularly. “Over 70% of tooth decay starts in the gaps between teeth, yet a toothbrush alone only cleans about 60% of the tooth’s surface,” explains Emma (dental hygienist from the Dental Referral Centre).
“To properly clean those hard-to-reach areas, interdental cleaning is crucial. Products such as DenTek’s floss picks and interdental brushes make this easier and can be introduced from an early age. In fact, dentists advise children to start interdental cleaning as soon as two teeth touch.”

Many common dental issues are preventable or can at least be delayed with effective oral care. While most people brush their teeth daily, too few include interdental cleaning.
