Our Autumn Stay At Bluestone Wales

It’s official we have the post-holiday blues! We have not long come back from a lovely mid-week stay at Bluestone Wales and it has left us wanting more!

Our Bluestone Break

After hearing so many glowing reviews from my friends, we were over the moon to have been invited to stay at Bluestone Wales. The date soon come around, we filled up the car and off we went. We arrived quite late at the park due to hitting every traffic jam going. Once there, we were greeted by the loveliest of staff. They handed us our welcome pack and off we drove to our lodge.

The park has a no car policy so once you have dropped off all of your belongings at your lodge, you are then asked to park your car on the long stay car park for the duration of your holiday.

The Lodge

We stayed in one of the Caldey lodges and it was amazing. The first thing that I noticed as we entered was just how spacious it was inside! I thought with it being all on one floor that it would be quite tight for space, but in fact, it was the total opposite. It had a lovely fitted kitchen with everything you could possibly need during your stay. You get a little welcome pack with washing up basics and a couple of dishwasher tablets, ideal to just tie you over until you go to the shop.

The Caldey lodges have a wet room which is also a generous size and decorated out beautifully.

Our lodge had an interconnecting door so when opened you can gain access to two lodges. Ideal for large families or friends staying next door to each other.

They cater for mini people too, having a high chair and a playpen to hand if needed.

The bedrooms were bright and airy and had plenty of furniture to pop your belongings inside. It was fab to have our own little patio area too, which would be ideal for BBQ’s.

The Site

I couldn’t believe just how big Bluestone is. It is a huge place and has lots of steep hills, so you may want to consider their buggy hire rental.

Just to clarify, Our 7 year old did not actually drive a buggy, he is just a poser!

It has a lovely little village in the centre of the site. This has everything in one place. Restaurants, a pub, bakery, souvenir shops and convenience store. You haven’t got to want for anything. The prices in the shop are very reasonable which is quite refreshing compared to some resorts we have stayed at, whose prices were through the roof. That was certainly not the case here.

The site is maintained to an impeccable standard. It is very clear to see that a lot of hard work and dedication goes into the upkeep of the park. It is absolutely immaculate and a pleasure to walk around. Even with Autumn upon us, it was full of colourful blooms.

Activities Galore

We booked a couple of activities for the boys, prior to arriving and so glad we did. Jayden did some pumpkin decorating and racing.

We enjoyed a show where the kids were encouraged to get involved. The staff were friendly, fun and very entertaining….

There is a park in the middle of the village which was nice to let the kids run off some energy.

Food

There is a wide range of places to eat at Bluestone. You have the Knights Tafarn, the Farmhouse Grill and the Oak Tree. We booked a sitting at Camp Smokey. Joben was very grizzly that morning because of the late night before, so we decided to avoid the inevitable meltdown and let Joben take his afternoon nap back at the lodge with me whilst Jayden and daddy had a bit of *man time*. It was lovely that Jayden got to spend some quality time with his Dad.  It also gave Joben chance to sleep off his severe case of ‘grumpy’ before we headed off to the beach.

They both had a burger for lunch and some toasted marsh mellows on the fire pit for afters! I’ve heard the atmosphere at night down at Camp Smokey is amazing. They have a shindig with live music, this is definitely something we will be checking out next time.

There is also a handy fish & chips trailer on site. Great for taking back to your digs for a convenient tea. We really enjoyed ours and it was a decent price too.

You will probably spot some quirky characters on your travels. Like this couple with their toilet brush poodle! Isn’t it fab?!

Out And About

It doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, a holiday just isn’t a holiday unless you visit the beach! So we visited a couple whilst there.

First, we went to Newgale beach. The view that greets you as you drive towards the shore is breathtaking, it really is.

I could sit and daydream on that bench all day long!

The shore is lovely and apparently is very popular with surfers and kite flyers. One thing for sure is that it’s not pushchair friendly. It has a high wall of pebbles to climb down before you reach the sand making it virtually impossible with younger ones in tow. It has three car parks, two of which are pay and display. Toilets are also on site.

Next up was Saundersfoot beach. I imagine this to be a very popular beach come Summer time. It has parking, shops, places to eat and is pushchair friendly too.

We had the best time and it is all thanks to the lovely staff at Bluestone. They all went above and beyond to ensure our holiday was perfect. So a big thank you to each and every one of you!
