I love Halloween but I don’t need this season to enjoy a good horror movie. I am an absolute horror buff and watch horror movies quite often.
But as the spooky season is just around the corner, I thought I would share a few of my favourite horror movies of all time! Some tame, others not so much!
The Lost Boys
This isn’t the scariest of horror movies but is by far my favourite of all! I know word for word of The Lost Boys, I’ve even got the soundtracks.
Lucy along with her two sons, Michael and Sam moves to a small town in California at her father’s house (I love Grandpa he’s so funny).
Before long, the two boys are sucked into the mysterious and dangerous world of bikers, vampires and vampire hunters.
The Exorcist
I don’t even think you need a synopsis for this as it’s such a popular Horror movie, but basically, when a little girl (Regan) shows signs of being possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two catholic priests.
I think The Exorcist will always be up there when it comes to horror fans’ favourite movies. It’s such a classic.
IT
Me and my best friend watched the two originals back in 1990 when we were far too young! I remember us hiring them from the video shop close to her house. We were scared witless for weeks after haha! My friend still hates the sight of clowns to this day!
A group of outcast kids come across Pennywise and all vow to kill him in any way they can. The series takes place in two time periods. When they first confront Pennywise in 1960, and the second half in 1990 where they return as adults to try and defeat him again!
SMILE
This was creepy as! SMILE is a supernatural horror thriller in which a psychiatrist becomes caught in a terrifying chain of events following the violent death of one of her patients. There are lots of scares throughout! It’s a good one.
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare
The Freddy movies scared the sh*t out of me as a child. I always remember my older brother loving him, he even had a full-size poster in his room where the eyes followed you.
As I got older I loved the films too!
The razored-fingered monster returns in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare but he is brought to reality and starts to attack the filmmakers themselves. There is a fine line between what is reality and what is a dream. I thought this was a good twist following on from Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare.
The Purge
If a horror movie absolutely terrifies you at the thought of it actually happening to yourself then it’s a good one!
During an economic collapse in the states, a political party called the New Founding Fathers of America. They pass a new law that allows a yearly purge (a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legal).
This is a very gory one so if that is not your bag then you may want to give the Purge set a miss!
Halloween (1978)
Halloween is another classic that I love. Michael Myers kills his teenage sister Judith in 1963 on Halloween night.
He spends the next 15 years in a mental hospital. A set of events in 1978 leads to his escape and off he goes on a killing spree!
The original is by far the best, but I do like the ones that follow too.
Saw
The thought of having to solve puzzles by the jigsaw killer to avoid being tortured to death, is just horrifying isn’t it?!
I love all of the Saw movies and really excited to see the latest one as well!
Hellraiser
We have such sights to show you! Haha. I’ll never get tired of Hellraiser.
Frank Cotton buys an antique puzzle box that once solved puts him in a deathly position that turns him into ‘Pinhead’ head of the Cenobites, a group of extra-dimensional, sadomasochistic beings who cannot differentiate between pain and pleasure.

My brother and I did the same with IT. We rented it from the corner shop, they didn’t care about age ratings then because I am sure we weren’t old enough. lol It scared the life out of us.
I am not a horror fan now but I did like Halloween and Hellraisier, I was a lot braver when I was younger. x
Horror films are not really my thing. I like the old B/W films I grew up with on TV – classic mummies, ghosts, vampires. (I’m older than you.) I remember when the movies you like came out and even saw a few. Of those you mentioned, I guess my favorites are the original movie IT and The Exorcist. I had read the book the Exorcist was based on – loads of evil. If I’ve read the book first, I’m usually a little disappointed in the movies. Enjoy your fav movies and the season! #MMBC
We just watched The Lost Boys last weekend with my oldest (he’s 19– and was so NOT impressed!). I found that it definitely lost a little something in the intervening years and I mostly thought it was a riot now. The only other one from your list that I’ve seen was The Exorcist but I don’t remember much about it.
I scare easily – I’m not a horror movie fan at all! I remember watching Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a teenager but the worst was Gremlins – I found it really scary!!

We had a family Halloween party a few years ago and we watched The Lost Boys through a projector to get a big movie experience. Everyone loved it because it was so bad in a good way!
Saw has always worried me as it is very real, and could actually happen, they are the ones that scare me more, IT is bloomin freaky as well though.
I used to love The Lost Boys!! I still remember the song now. Great film. I do love a horror film but not one that’s too scary haha.
