Moving house with kids. A family carrying boxes into their new home.

Moving house can be stressful at the best of times, but throw some little ones into the mix and things can get messy!
We moved to where we are now just over 15 months ago. Our previous house was rented and owned by farmers, so when they decided to pack up shop and move back into their house, (which we were in) it didn’t really give us much time to sort things out! We moved house along with our two boys who are 8 and 4 with very little help. It took some careful planning but we got there in the end. Here are some tips to help you move home with children in tow and still keep your sanity whilst doing so!

Hire Some Help

We moved every single thing we own by ourselves with just the help of a hired removal van. I really wished we had the time and money to hire a firm to do it all for us, but unfortunately, that was not an option just a couple of weeks before Christmas!
If we move in the future I will definitely be searching the internet for removal companies. They can take care of the moving process giving you more time to keep the kids entertained and get organised the other end. A simple search for removal services in your local area for example – removals London, will bring up a few results so you can try and get the best quote before settling for the first one that pops up!

Activity Bags

Moving house can be a little mundane for kids, especially with mum and dad being busy getting things sorted and in place. Pack some of the kids backpacks with some toys and activities such as colouring books and charged tablets to keep them entertained.

Snacks and drinks

Chances are you are going to have a lot of boxes to go through when you get to your new home. Pack one bag with essentials like drinks, sandwiches and snacks so you can all grab a bite to eat. Moving house is stressful enough without ‘hangry’ kids on top!

We survived the move even with a very short time to prepare! Moving house can actually be quite exciting, but as for moving our belongings, well I will be hiring some muscle in next time for sure!
