We are having a little bit of a decorating splurge at the moment. Mostly just a fresh coat of paint to brighten everything up before the winter comes.
The one room that we are going to spend a little more time decorating is our youngest’s bedroom.
We’ve got him some new storage solutions for his toys, some new bedding and curtains. While we were measuring up, I got to thinking that maybe it’s about time to transition him into a single bed now and get him a new bed as well. Joben has been in his junior bed for a while now, in fact, it seems like an eternity since he was in his cot. His single bed will hopefully last him for a good few years to come, so we have put a lot of thought into what kind of bed to get him.
There are so many different kinds of single beds out there now. We have looked in-depth at each and every one and have compiled a list of our five favourite styles.
Low Sleeper
These are fantastic as a transition single for obvious reasons. They are low to the ground so if your child were to roll out of bed at night, they would be less likely to injure themselves. They come in a massive array of designs and their height makes them perfectly suited to certain designs, like car beds.
Captain’s Bed
Captain’s beds are standard single beds that have an occasional or overnight bed built underneath them. The guest bed pulls out when required and pushes back under the captain’s bed when not in use, keeping the room nice and tidy. These are fantastic for having friends round for sleepovers. With very little effort, a comfortable bed is available in a flash.
Cabin Beds
A cabin bed or mid-sleeper is a bed that is raised from the floor. By raising the bed, space is created under the bed. This space can be used for a multitude of things. From storage, a den, a desk, you can even get slides to create a playground in the bedroom! A cabin bed with a tent is something that I’d have loved as a child – never mind my two boys! They are available in a variety of styles and finishes that are sure to suit all ages and tastes.
Bunk Beds
Bunk beds are a superb solution if you have children that share a room. By having the beds on top of each other, you can double the space available in the bedroom. There is a comprehensive range of designs available online, you can have a double on the bottom with a single on top, storage built into the bed or even a double-decker bus themed bed!
Loft Bed
I think these are more suitable for older children and teens, so it will be a few more years until we consider this for our youngest. There is a bunk bed style ladder to climb into the bed. By having the bed up high, it gives you the opportunity to use the newly-created space exactly as you please. You can have a wardrobe, a desk, a settee or futon or cupboard space and shelving for storage.
