Lockdown birthdays. Who would ever have imagined that we would experience a lockdown birthday in our lifetime?! It really is surreal isn’t it? I had my 40th birthday in lockdown and I’ve got to say it was probably the best birthday I have ever had. Probably the most memorable too!
I think it’s much harder to make the kids birthdays special when you are limited as to what you can do, but it is doable. I’m in the midst of planning my son’s 11th birthday and sourcing the perfect gifts for tweens. I know it will be a little different, but it will still be an epic one.

Decorate the house.
Now I know that this sounds like it should be self-explanatory, but it is so easy to neglect the party decorations because you won’t be having the usual amount of visitors. Balloons, bunting, streamers and posters all help raise the party spirit. Loads of themed decorations are available online, as are tons of ideas to make your own!

Birthday cake.
I know that the cake shops are not open and it may be a little more difficult to get hold of the perfect cake this year. So why not bake your own? Baking a cake should never be a daunting task. Anyone can follow a recipe and I guarantee that it will go down a storm at the party. There are thousands of tutorials and inspirational videos on YouTube to help you and you may just end up having fun creating your masterpiece.

Gaming Session
If your tween is a gamer like my eldest, it might be fun to have a family gaming afternoon, you could even invite friends and family to play along online too. Games like Fortnite are perfect for all of the family to get involved with. We play it all of the time in our house!

Source unique gifts
Well, it wouldn’t be much of a birthday without presents, would it? However, I think that the gifts for lockdown birthdays are so much more important. Without the usual guests and distractions, each gift will be examined and played with in great detail. There is much more reason to put the effort in to find the perfect gift for kids rather than give gift cards. The little bit of effort to get that extra special gift will be worth it when you see the smile on their faces, and let’s face it, our kids deserve to be spoiled, they are growing up in super tough times at the moment.

Virtual gift opening.
I know that it is super frustrating our friends and family cannot visit and watch the gifts being opened. One way to help soften the blow a little is to make use of technology and have a virtual gift opening. Using video calls can allow people to feel a little bit closer to the party and share a little of the enjoyment.

I loved my birthday in lockdown and it was one of the best I’ve had. I think it’s because there was no pressure to see anyone or go anywhere.

Iv had my birthday my sons birthday Amy eldest daughters birthday my twin girls birthday and my 2nd lockdown birthday is coming up in May!
I had a virtual cocktail party last year this year we are having a virtual pamper party! My kids have had an online gaming party my twins had a pamper and Pj day and my eldest didn’t want a fuss but I secretly contacted all her friends and they sent birthday video messages for her which she loved 🥰 it’s all about thinking outside the box!
