Decorating a room on a small budget is easily achievable with a few simple updates. The kitchen is the heart of our home and like any other household, it has a lot of use. Hinges on the cupboards can become loose with the number of times they’re opened by little people searching for snacks! Handles become tarnished and walls start to look tired.
Here are a few ideas on how to give your kitchen a mini-makeover without completely starting from scratch.

Paint

By changing the colour scheme on your walls, you can totally transform your kitchen into a new fresh and airy space. There are so many lovely shades to choose from. You could pop by your local DIY store and grab some samples and try them out before you make any decisions.
You could also use cabinet paint and brighten up your unit fronts with a new colour.

New Worktops

Kitchen worktops put up with a lot of heavy usage over the years. We recently replaced ours after it started to show signs of wear and tear. I simply cannot believe how it has totally transformed the room! We chose a laminate worktop which is hard-wearing and it was perfect for our small budget. There are many styles of worktops to consider, there’s laminate worktops (like ours), silestone worktops and if you have a bigger budget to play with, luxurious marble worktops.

New Fixtures & Fittings

We’ve all done it, stuffed too many things in the junk drawer and before you know it, the runners have come loose! Kitchen cupboard door handles start to look worn and taps tarnished through limescale. All of these can be replaced on a budget and will breath a new lease of life into the kitchen once again.

Update Window Furnishings

Changing the colour scheme of your curtains or changing an existing blind is another cheap way to change things around a little.
If you are a keen sewer you could even make your own roman blind, which gives you more control of what fabric/pattern you would prefer.

So there are 4 ways in which you can achieve a mini makeover with minimal effort and on a budget to suit your current finances.

  1. I love my kitchen but there is still so much work to do in there but it all costs so much. I’d love some blinds in there but our window is about 9ft wide and about 4ft high. Ugh. x

  2. It’s amazing how little touches can make difference. I love our kitchen. There are a couple of things I’d like to change in our kitchen – the curtains and add a few cupboard doors. One day! #mmbc
