The Midnight Library 1 scaled

I’ve read a few of Matt Haig’s books and I always enjoy his stories. I had heard quite a lot of hype about The Midnight Library and although I’m a little late to the party, I’ve just finished reading it.
Here is a little more about the book.

The Midnight Library review

The Blurb

Nora’s life has been going from bad to worse. Then at the stroke of midnight on her last day on earth she finds herself transported to a library. There she is given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived.
Which raises the ultimate question: with infinite choices, what is the best way to live?

My Thoughts

Nora the main character feels that she has exhausted all means of living a happy life, in sheer desperation, turns to suicide to end it all.
This storyline draws heavily on depression and having regrets in life so it can be quite triggering. With that said, it does teach us through the plot that happiness can be found in the smallest things if we can just be easier on ourselves.

Basically, Nora is in limbo in this strange realm that is purposely made for her to reflect on her life decisions. To discover where she went wrong, should she feel the deep regret that she does? Or should she be kinder to herself and put it down to experience?
She re-visits these points in her life through the library books and we follow along on her self-discovery journey.

Although it is not something that I would normally read, I enjoyed The Midnight Library. I think we could all take a little away from the book. Don’t let the paths you first chose to walk down determine your future.
Things happen, people change, life goes on. Live and enjoy the now!
