Starting university can be both exciting and daunting for teens. It’s typically the first time they’ll be away from home, with some kids moving hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away from their families. In their newfound journey of independence, it’s common for them to feel homesick; especially if they aren’t going to see their family for months at a time. That’s where care packages can come in extremely useful.
If you’re worried about your kid starting uni, what better way to put them (and you) at ease than by sending a care package? Here, you’ll discover some great ideas of what to include in the package and how to send it.
A Letter And Photo
Before adding personal belongings and comforting treats, it’s a great idea to include a letter and a photo to the care package. These are beautiful, sentimental items that they are guaranteed to treasure; especially in the first few weeks of starting uni.
Even if you plan to talk on the phone frequently, it’s not the same as having a personal letter they can look back on. The photo of you and your child will also be treasured and can provide a great comfort when they start to feel homesick.
Little Comforts
As well as a letter and photo, you’ll want to send items that are going to help your child settle in. Hot chocolate, sweets, cosy socks and even a bed throw are all great items to include. You could even create a little hamper of all of their favourite things. Or, why not invest in practical things they more than likely haven’t thought to buy such as cold and flu medicine, dental floss and cleaning supplies?
You could throw in a gift card if you have the budget too. This allows them to buy whatever they need or whatever they may have forgotten.
How To Send A Package
Once you’ve put the care package together, it’s time to figure out how to send it. Whether you’re sending the parcel nationally or internationally, it’s a good idea to compare different couriers.
You can use websites such as Parcel2Go.com, to compare the major couriers and choose the cheapest option. No matter what size parcel you’re sending or what shipping features you’re looking for, there’s bound to be at least one courier to fit your needs.
Overall, sending a care package to a child that’s just started uni is a great way to show them you’re thinking about them. It’s also going to be really appreciated, especially if you include things they actually need.
