A Garden Project – Our Composite Decking Plan

Composite decking

*Disclosure – We have partnered up with Roofing Megastore to carry out this project. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Having both being brought up in towns, after Craig and I got married we decided that we both prefered to live rurally. We’ve lived in the countryside pretty much ever since.
We have lived in our current house for 11 months now and we have been busy decorating inside the house and working on the exterior such as renovating the space to the rear and side of the house.

We now have a lawn laid and have started to add shrubs and plants. But I wanted to extend the outdoor living space with a decking area, to create an extra room if you like.

Choosing Our Decking

Decking has come on leaps and bounds in the last 20 years. Gaining popularity in the United Kingdom in the early 2000’s the only choice you had really was what colour to stain your wooden decking. Now there is a whole range of wooden boards, wooden decking tiles, plastic decking or composite decking boards.

Each different type of decking has its own pros and cons. Wooden decking is perhaps the most versatile but also requires the most maintenance. Plastic decking requires minimum care but can be slippery in adverse weather. Decking tiles are really easy to lay and simple to create a visually stunning area, but require lots of upkeep and are not as structurally stable as large deck frames.

This left us with composite decking and the benefits of having composite really contributed to our decision.

  • Durability. Composite decking is hard-wearing and doesn’t splint or crack or rot.
  • Low maintenance. There is no having to re-paint or stain composite boards like you have to with traditional wooden decking.
  • Eco-friendly. Composite decking is normally made up of recycled materials.
  • Lots of colours and styles to choose from.
  • Comes with a whole range of accessories such as balustrade to finish off your perfect deck.
  • Anti-slip, the boards are textured with either a traditional grooved finish or a wood grain effect.

All we needed to do now was to source where we were going to get all of the required products from. After an extensive search, we came across Roofing Megastore who we are very proud to be partnering up with for this project.

Who Are Roofing Megastore?

Roofing Megastore is one of the UK’s leading roofing merchants. They offer a huge range of materials for exterior projects. From the obvious – roof materials, insulation, corrugate sheets, polycarbonate sheets, lead, fascias and guttering, windows, decking and the list goes on. We contacted them about our decking plans and as we had never laid composite decking before, obviously we had a few questions. The team dealt with all of our questions swiftly and expertly and put us at complete ease that this was indeed who we wanted to work with on such a large project.

We are going to be using Salt Lake Silver boards with Graphite balustrades from Roofing Megastore’s composite decking range.

I will be posting some updates on here showing the progress of our decking project, so stay tuned for that!

We have so much still to do in our house too, we are hoping to get our lounge finished soon. But most the rooms in our house are a work in progress…
