Knowing Me Knowing You Aha! Featuring Becki The Mum From Brum

Hi everyone and welcome back to another edition of Knowing Me Knowing You Aha! A weekly blog series where we feature a blogger/reader sharing ten random facts about themselves. Did you catch last weeks feature? Emma from Even Angels Fall.

This week we have the lovely Becki who blogs at The Mum From Brum. Over to you Becki……

1. I discovered this year that Rafael Nadal and I were born on the exact same day. And judging by the fact that I was born at 00:12am, I assume I’m the older of the two of us. While he might be better at Tennis, I’m definitely the better parenting blogger, so, you know, swings and roundabouts…

2. When we moved house I was worried I’d be bored and have nothing to do. In the last 6 months I’ve joined an am dram group as their Marketing Manager and performed in their most recent play, as well as developing and running a brand new arts website. Bored is the last word I’d use right now!!

3. I have been hugged and kissed by infamous illusionist Derren Brown. (As has my hubs, but this isn’t about him!!!) He also signed my copy of his first book, thanking me for my “excellent nightly services”… reading that back, I should probably explain! I was an usher at a theatre he was performing at, and was stationed at the side of the stage each night to help audience participants up and down the narrow steps. I even had to help out with one of the tricks 🙂

4. As a child, I was apparently obsessed with newsreader Alastair Stewart. I don’t remember any of this, but I was often found staring up at the news whenever he was on, and often while I was sat on the potty. My aunt arranged for him to send me a card for my 30th last year, and he asked how the potty training was going…

5. I LOVE researching my family tree. It all started because we wanted a family name for my son – both of his middle names come from mine and hubs’ paternal lines. I’ve got back to the late 16th century with some lines – sadly no royalty or major controversy yet!! Although hubs appears to be related to a famous violinist called John Tiplady Carrodus. Nope, I’d never heard of him either…

6. I’ve had two fairly major operations in the last 10 years; I had my gallbladder removed in 2008 when it tried to kill me, and my left ovary removed 2 years ago when it turned out it had an enormous dermoid cyst on it. Now, a dermoid cyst is incredibly interesting but also pretty revolting, so I shan’t go into detail (google it if you’re not squeamish.)

7. Je suis en train de apprendre parler français. Je ne suis pas très bon à ça.

8. I love washi tape. And now that I have proved to my hubs that I can maintain a bullet journal without getting bored of it for over a year, I can now buy it to decorate my diary guilt free! Woo!

9. The biggest thing I miss now that I’m a parent is reading. I used to devour a book in a day when I had some down time, but I’ve been reading The Handmaid’s Tale for about 6 months now, and I’m only halfway through. I also miss playing the Sims, but let’s face it, I only ever used to use it for building houses anyway…

10. I quote The League Of Gentlemen on a pretty much daily basis. Whether that’s quantifying something as “twelvety” or responding to a tantrum with “what’s all this shouting? We’ll have no trouble here!” I’m sure I was too young to be watching it really when it first started, but I loved that it was naughty and rude. It’s all on Netflix at the moment so I’m binge watching it when my son is at nursery!
