Fun Family Time Ideas at Home

  1. Start Your Own Board Game Marathon

Nothing beats quality family time like some friendly competition. Grab your favorite board game or a deck of cards and start playing! While classics like Monopoly and Crazy Eights are always a hit, if you’re looking for something new, check out our list of the best board games for kids.

  1. Watching Movies Together

When you are preparing plans for kids for Family Day, you will still notice that it is not possible to fill all the time with fun games. That is when watching movies comes to the rescue. You can watch HBO Max Canada, although only with the help of VeePN. This means that you can access a huge amount of family content. Consider the wishes of all family members and relax with your loved ones.

  1. Get Cooking Together

Cooking is a vital life skill that kids can start learning early. Empower your children by letting them pick a recipe each week to make for dinner. Gather the ingredients and have them join you in the kitchen.

Young kids can assist with measuring, stirring, and gathering items. Older children can learn safe food cutting techniques and cook with supervision. Cooking together not only fosters bonding but also eases the burden of meal planning for parents.

  1. Build a Garden Labyrinth

Just as the Internet is a labyrinth of information that can easily get lost, a garden labyrinth will help you forget about boredom. Create a fun backyard path using stones, twigs, or even unmowed grass. You can find simple patterns online or in books for inspiration. Kids will especially love navigating the twists and turns of your creation.

  1. Write a Family Poem

Looking for a fun way to introduce kids to poetry? Try Family Acrostic Poem activity!

This exercise not only helps children expand their vocabulary but also challenges them to get creative and write their own poem. Display their work on a classroom wall alongside other family day activities for a beautiful showcase.

And don’t forget to give the kids an opportunity to share their poems with the class—you might discover some budding poets!

  1. Get Gardening

Gardening brings numerous benefits for families looking to enjoy quality time together at home. Here are a few examples:

  • It’s versatile: Grow a garden in your kitchen window, on your balcony, or in your yard.
  • Environmental benefits: Gardening helps the environment.
  • Healthy food: Grow your own nutritious food.
  • Gift seedlings: Share seedlings as thoughtful presents.
  • Educational opportunity: Gardening is a fun science lesson.
  • Teaches responsibility: Assign your kids various gardening tasks and have them maintain a log to record their daily observations.
  1. Tackle a DIY project

DIY’ing as a family is a great way to bond and get creative together. Plus, you might pick up a new skill along the way! No matter your budget or skill level, there’s a project out there for everyone. Looking for ideas? Decoist has put together a list of 20 kid-friendly home DIY projects that are perfect for the whole family.

  1. Plan a Treasure Hunt

Kids love scavenger hunts! Hide small treasures in the garden and create a map with directions. For an aged look, soak the map in coffee and tear the edges while it’s wet. You can also hide the map in the house for kids to find while doing chores.

  1. Do Magic Tricks

For a fun family activity, find some magic tricks on YouTube and put on a show for the kids. You can even teach an older child a few tricks to perform for everyone.

  1. Put on a Fashion Show

Dive into your closets, dress up, and have everyone show off their outfits. If you’ve got a big family, consider appointing judges and giving out awards for the best dressed—make it a fun event!

Plus, this is the perfect chance to do some spring cleaning. Sort through old clothes you no longer want, and work together to pack them up for donation to a charity or secondhand store.

  1. Kick the Can

This outdoor family game requires at least four players. If an explanation is needed, the rules can be clarified before starting the game. One child is chosen to be “it” and starts by kicking a can and counting to 100 while the others hide. After counting, the kicker sets the can upright and shouts: “Ready or not, here I come”, then begins searching for the other players.

When the kicker finds someone, they shout the player’s name and race them back to the can, trying to be the first to knock it over. If the kicker loses, the game restarts. If they win, the captured player must stand near the can while the kicker continues searching. Other hiders can try to free captured players by kicking the can before they are spotted. If they succeed, everyone hides again. The game continues until all players have been captured.

Final Words

And with that, we wish you a very happy Family Day! Choose the activities that appeal to you most and create your own entertainment plan. Just a few ideas will completely change your family day.
