Communication is something that we overlook as it comes so easy to us. For children that are still learning about the world, the process to build the skills can be difficult as it requires the opportunity to build and exercise them. This makes exposure to social situations important. Something which you can do by enlisting your child to an activities club of their choice or by participating in community projects together. If you’re looking for tips on how to develop your child’s communication skills, look no further as we have some from an independent school in Potters Bar below.

Talk to Your Child

It’s as simple as that. Having conversations with your child can help them to become a better communicator as they can practise verbalising their thoughts and feelings, that too with someone that they feel comfortable with.

Word of The Day

Vocabulary can enrich our speech which is why it’s important for you to work with your child to build theirs. This can be done through a tool like word of the day which generates new, random words or through reading.

Confidence Building

While your child may have great things to contribute, they may not yet have the confidence to do so. This can keep them from building their communication skills. A way in which you can help is by showing your child that what they have to say is valued. You can also use praise and set an example by showing them how you engage and communicate with others confidently.

Ask Them About Their Day

Sometimes it can be difficult to get a conversation started. To do so, you can ask them about their day. This can also teach them about how to break the ice and socialise so that they can do it with ease.
