When children are young they tend to be more enthusiastic and engaged with certain interests, take risks and so on. While it’s common for children to explore as much as they can, some children can become reserved or shy at times. This is when you can try to step in and help your child – here are some tips from this independent boarding college.
Take your child to after school activities and clubs
A lot of a child’s confidence is built from taking part in regular activities between friends, during school time or with their family. Encourage your child to try new things by letting them experience different activities to find out what interests them. You may have a vague idea of what your child likes already and should follow your intuition; you can also ask what your child’s friends are doing after school and if they want to join them in extracurricular activities.
Ensure your child feels comfortable at home
Are there any ways you can improve your child’s confidence at home? Are there any signs your child feels reserved at home? These could be indicators that the home needs to change to motivate a stronger and more comfortable environment. Talk to your child often in between days at school and when making dinner. The more you converse with your child the more you can learn about their mannerisms and what makes them feel happy – things you can use to improve their confidence at home.
Focus on your child’s strengths
Your child will feel much more motivated to do well if their strengths are identified and focused on throughout their school lives. Your child will have areas that they struggle in, or just flat out don’t enjoy, so this is where you can hype up your child’s strengths instead. This can easily feed into what your child’s interested in and what hobbies they want to take up as well.
Raising a confident child is so important – they will stride through life
