A red cardboard box with white spots on a kitchen worktop.

As a family of four, I try to be as organised as I can when it comes to our meal plans. I work from home and I homeschool both of my children, so we have quite a busy schedule throughout the week.
Meal planning has helped me save time so I can do more fun stuff with the kids. It has cut down on so much food waste and of course, saved us so much money.
It cuts out all of the impulse buying, which I am often guilty of! And we no longer hear…..what are we having for dinner?

Just recently we have introduced Gousto to our meal plan and I’m really enjoying our subscription. It’s given us even more variety and the kids get involved with choosing the meals each week, it’s really good.

As we have benefitted so much from using Gousto, I wanted to put together this small guide to help answer any questions you may have about this food subscription box.
I’ve tried to include as much as I can, but feel free to leave me a comment if I haven’t covered your question and I will try my best to help you!

Also, get a massive discount when you use my affiliate link to sign up! You can cancel your subscription at any time.

What is Gousto?

Gousto is a leading meal delivery service that delivers yummy dinners straight to your door. The menu has around 50 recipes that change every week. There are so many meals to choose from and the majority of which are family-friendly, so there is a little something to suit everyone’s taste.

How Does Gousto Work?

The Gousto box subscription is super easy to set up. Once you have chosen your box size, meals and delivery date, you can change your plan at any given time. You may be going away so you may want to skip that week. Or perhaps you have other commitments and want to put your deliveries on hold for a period of time.
Gousto is a very flexible service that fits around your week. We love the convenience!

Can you have gousto for one?

Sadly, there is currently no option for one person. The smallest box available at the moment is for 2 people.
I will be sure to update this post should Gousto introduce meals for one in the near future.

Does Gousto offer vegan options?

Absolutely! There are lots of meals on the menu that offer an array of plant-based alternatives. The meat-free and dairy-free dinners definitely don’t lack any flavour. We’ve tried quite a few and they are absolutely delicious.

What day does the Gousto menu change?

When you have chosen the meals that you want, you have up to three days before delivery to edit your order. The menu changes every Tuesday at midday. Where you can discover lots of delicious meal ideas. Some meals are very popular and can tend to sell out fast! So definitely worth getting your order in early.

Are Gousto boxes suitable if you are dieting?

Yes, they are. I am currently on a low-calorie diet and the Gousto meals fit in really well with my plan. There are many low-calorie dishes and the portions are just enough to leave you feeling satisfied, which is good because it stops me from feeling the need to snack afterward!

How long does the Gousto box stay fresh?

The Gousto eco box is designed to keep the contents fresh for one day. Once the food is chilled in the fridge, it will have a life of 4-6 days. Everything has a guideline as to when it should be used up, so you can cook those meals first.
You can also freeze the meat in the box if you are wanting to have that at a later date.

Which courier do Gousto use?

Yodel delivers the Gousto boxes. To be totally honest, I have had a lot of rubbish experiences with Yodel in the past, including a very ignorant driver who took it out on us because he locked his keys in his car! (He wasn’t the brightest spark). With that said, I have to say since starting our Gousto box subscription everything has gone smoothly.
There has been no damage to the boxes and the ingredients are kept chilled thanks to the Eco chill box.

Do I get a discount on my first order?

Yes, you’re in luck! Because if you use my referral code you will receive 65% off your first box and 20% off your first two months! And you can cancel your subscription at any time.

What happens if I’m not home?

That’s not a problem. You can leave a note for the delivery driver to leave your Gousto box in a safe place, such as the porch or with a neighbour. So there is no need to be home all day on the date of your delivery.

Are Gousto boxes eco-friendly?

The Gousto boxes are super eco-friendly. The eco chill box is brilliant as it can all be recycled. The new cardboard insulator box not only keeps the food cool and fresh, it cuts down on 74.5 tonnes of plastics that would have been used to make the original boxes.

Have you tried a Gousto box subscription before? I would love to hear how you got on if so.

  4. Thank you for such an extensive review. The amount of time I take going shopping and cooking is ridiculous so something like Gousto is so good at giving that time back to me to spend with my kids

  5. If cooking from scratch at home, the ingredients and dishes tend to be limited in range so repeated often. Using a box like Gousto, the ingredients and dishes are far more varied and so are the nutrients in them. As well as being convenient and delicious, the higher nutrient value should not be understated.

  6. I will have a look at their menu ! I must admit that in the week I do struggle to find inspiring meals so this may be the answer!

  7. This is super helpful – thanks. I’m currently trying out Hello Fresh, but it’s nice to know what other options are out there for me to give a go. I’m disappointed neither of them have a 1 person option though, I feel they’d do really well there. Also, a bit rubbish they use Yodel.. I’ve had terrible past experiences with them. They completely lost one of my packages and that’s never happened to me before with any other company.

  8. I’ve been reading about Gusto boxes on various blogs and it sounds like it is perfect for busy families. The meals have a great variety. I don’t think it’s in the US and large boxes don’t work for 1 person. Great post – pinned! #MMBC

  10. Although convenient, I’m afraid the price puts me off, especially as there is additional cost in using energy to cook the meals.

  11. I have done a few free ones similiar to this, but it always seem quite expensive, and never the right portion size for the other half!

  13. I’ve never tried a gousto box before but friends have recommended, definitely something I’d be open to trying!

  14. I’ve tried a couple of meal services and Gousto was definitely a favourite just wish they did it for one person

  15. This sounds like a great meal option to consider. It sounds very similar to the Everyplate we have here in the US. If it weren’t for delivery issues, we would have continued to use that service!
