It’s been a while since I popped up some book reviews on here. Time has been spread very thinly lately! But I’ve discovered some lovely reads recently so I’m making the time to give these amazing books a little mention.
I was kindly sent a copy of Drawn To The Garden By Caroline Quentin and I loved this so much.
Much-loved actress caroline Quentin draws on her life-long passion for gardening in this charming horticultural journey.
In this book, adorned with her own beautiful illustrations, she reveals the joy she gets from spending time in her garden, whether it be raising seeds in her potting shed or grappling with the best way to grow beetroot. For her, gardening is not all about expertise, but should be a fun and enjoyable activity, filled with the simple pleasures of planning, planting, harvesting and cooking. Caroline also finds it a meditative and restorative pastime, and a great way to lift her spirits.
Firstly, what a wholesome, cosy and oh-so-relatable read!
I too love gardening and it is most definitely one of my favourite pastimes. To be able to shut off from the noise of a busy day and be soothed by nothing but birds chirping, it’s just the best feeling, especially when your home is as busy and as loud as ours!
The first thing that caught my attention was the beautiful little illustrations by Caroline. They are colourful, whimsical and some quite quirky! This made me smile…

I think the local farmer would have something to say if I did my gardening like this, and I’d be paranoid a horsefly may end up chomping on my butt cheek! But how liberating.
Drawn to the Garden is not just your average gardening book full of tips and tricks, although there are plenty of fab pointers! It is much more than that. I love how Caroline associates memories with her garden. Certain flowers and smells that take her back to her childhood. Some memories are joyful, some are sad.
She also touches on mental health and how a garden can be a form of therapy, which I totally agree with. I think everyone should have a go at growing something even if you don’t have a clue.
Gardening is purely trial and error. Once you see that green shoot popping up from the soil, you will be transformed into a gardening junkie! It is addictive and very satisfying.
Caroline also shares some yummy recipes throughout the book, which are perfect if you are having a go at growing your own food.
So whether you are a full-on ‘get me in the garden now’ type person, or totally new to gardening, grab yourself a cuppa, cosy up and get drawn to the garden!
I love her illustrations too. Cute for sure. I miss gardening since I no longer have a yard, but I enjoy the plantings around the condo buildings. Life is easier with someone else keeping it mowed and clean. #MMBC
What a lovely sounding book! It does sound like a cosy read. The illustrations are just beautiful. x
Gardening is so peaceful for me. 🌱 This book sounds like a nice read. 📚 Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it. #MMBC
Your comment about horseflies made me laugh! I read an interview where Caroline talked about writing this book. Gardens are hard work but mine is definitely good for my mental health 🙂

I love the illustrations that she has used!
My parents love gardening so I think they would like this book.
Im not too keen on gardening myself but I can totally relate to the fact that it is a form of therapy and helps people mentally. Sounds like a great read for you.
