We love nothing more than getting outside and enjoying the sights around us. Outdoors learning plays a big part in our homeschooling so A Friend To Nature is the perfect book to give us fun ideas for nature-inspired activities.
The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful illustrations on the front cover. So colourful and full of flora and fauna.
The introduction is particularly important as it includes a “Staying Safe Outdoors” section which explains in a simple bullet point format how children can avoid danger and stick to the safety rules when exploring nature.
Making a home for nature is just one of the many lovely projects to get started with.
There are plenty of easy-to-follow guides to make exciting nature crafts just like this nest box.
It lists the tools needed to make the nest box, step-by-step instructions and the best location to place it when made.
There are so many more lovely activities such as identifying footprints from wildlife, feeding nature, attracting bees by growing different flowers, making a mini pond, minibeast hunts and more.
I also loved that litter picking was included. We live directly on a canal, and my boys and I regularly take a litter picker with us when we go on a walk. You would be surprised at how much litter people drop and sadly this ends up in the canals, and sometimes in the weir that runs around our home!
A Friend To Nature is a joy to read and such a fab resource to educate our children not only on the importance of wildlife but to emerge themselves into nature and thoroughly enjoy its beauty. We will certainly enjoy working our way through all of the projects that are featured.
