I love my Alexa. She keeps me organised and entertained day to day. I love that the system gets updated on a regular basis so there is always something new to discover. She can even host board games now like When in Rome. Because I think Alexa is a little gadget of awesomeness I thought I would put together some cool things that she can do!
Shopping
You can add the Alexa Skill to connect to Morrisons or Tesco to make your shopping list. Add things to your grocery shop instantly. This is brilliant if you are cleaning and running low on disinfectant or the kids have used the last toilet roll on one poo! (Yes I am talking from experience here!). Simply add the item to your list to make sure you don’t forget. As your Alexa is connected to your Amazon account you can add things to your Amazon basket, purchase things from Amazon and also check your order status.
Recipes
Use Alexa as an efficient kitchen assistant. You can source recipes, request to convert units say if you want to know what a cup is in millilitres and so on.
Another handy feature is being able to set multiple timers. You can name different timers and save them, which is very useful for dishes that you have regularly.
Control The Home
Alexa can control smart enabled devices such as lighting, heating thermostats, door locks, security cameras, robovacs, turn on tv’s and sound systems and pretty much control anything that is powered with a smart plug.
Alexa Skills
There are lots of skills you can add via the Amazon Alexa app. Here are just a few of our favourites –
Kids skills
4AFart – Alexa will fart. Probably the most used skill in our house!
Amazon Storytime – Plenty of short stories to listen to.
Bird Song – Little ones can have fun identifying different bird songs. You could use this alongside the RSPB website.
Lemonade Stand – A fun game where you run your own little business selling lemonade. Helps maths skills and problem-solving.
High Five Maths – Lots of fun maths questions with a choice of levels.

Adult Skills
Rain sounds relaxation and focus – there are lots of calming sound skills to choose from. If you have problems dropping off at night then these could perhaps help?
Gordon Ramsay Skill – Ask him what he thinks of your dish and listen as he rips the hell out of you!
The Magic Door – An interactive adventure game.
7 Minute Work out – A customisable fitness routine to follow.
Create Your Own Skills With The Blueprints Skill
There are so many things you can do in the blueprint skill. Every skill can be personalised so, for example, you want to create a chores rota for all of the family, everyone can just check with Alexa that day to see what their designated chores are.
Another good one is if you run an AirBnB or hire out a property. You can create a skill that the guests can use to find out what to do in the area, where to find things in the property and instructions on how to use electricals etc.
Fun things to say to Alexa
Alexa, party on Wayne
Alexa, never gonna give you up
Alexa, why did the chicken cross the road?
Alexa, fetch me a beer
Alexa, can you beatbox?
Alexa, winter is coming
Alexa, what did the fox say?
Find samples
Call in free samples by asking – Alexa send me samples. This will prompt Alexa to send a message to the Alexa app with details on how to register with sendmeasample.net. When samples become available you can opt for them to be sent out to you.
There haven’t actually been any samples available since I signed up so will update this post when I do receive any.
Do you have a favourite Alexa skill? Or maybe you have a Google home and have some fun features to share?
Pin me!

These are so cool. I got a Google Home Mini a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I use it so much for all sorts of things. It does tell fibs though. I asked if it was going to snow yesterday and it was very specific, between 2 & 4pm. It didn’t. Not a snowflake in sight. lol
We got our 10 year old an alexa for christmas and she loves it and she’s shown me the beatbox. I’ll have to get her to say party on later as we always say she looks like Garth!
Alexa is amazing! Technology blows my mind – just imagine what sort of things we’ll be able to get Alexa to do in the next few years!
Oh my golly, I had no idea. I thought they were just for music! How cool is it you can link it to your shopping and just talk to it. Although, for me I am might be better off without it or else my money might be disappearing if it is so easy!
I’ll have to screen shot these they look fun!! Handy for shopping lists, I alway remember at random moments what I need to get from the shops.
We have not tried Alexa yet but I have heard good things. I think using Alexa for recipes would be great as I love to cook. Angela – The Inspiration Edit.
We don’t have an Alexa but I’ve heard how it is. I’ve seen posts on FB recently saying ‘Alex send me a free coke sample’ how cool!
My ex son in law had Alexa it is quite good Should tell it today the ironing as well lol
I had no idea that you could do so many things with Alexa, I might have to convince my other half to treat me 🙂
Oh I love this post! I’ve never know what to do with Alexa. I don’t think I’ll tell the boys she can fart though ?
My kids love our Alexa. Their favourite thing to play is the “Animal Game.” You think of an animal and Alexa will ask you lots of questions to guess what it is. You can only answer yes, no or don’t know! There’s mot many times that she’s not guessed it correctly in the end! I like the “Discipline My Kids” app for a laugh. You ask Alexa to discipline your child and she’ll give them a funny forfeit to do like, do the washing up or do 10 star jumps. It makes the kids laugh to have Alexa tell them off! #MMBC
Hahha this brilliant going to have to give some of these a whirl X #mmbc
I haven’t got Alexa but judging by all your comments it is time I got one
I don’t have Alexa, but also had no idea what it could do!
