A lady holding a box outside of a self storage unit

*This is a collaborative post.

We can only work from our home whether a pandemic, or if we have the space to work. This can often mean making the most of the space that we have and looking towards decluttering our home. A spare bedroom may, for instance, become our office space. This may have previously been a storage space where items we had no room for elsewhere were kept.

Given the above scenario, we might want to consider storage unit prices so that we can carry on working but from home when required to do so. Also, companies are now offering the flexibility of working from home because of how technology allows it. This means that we will want to know just how cost-effective a self-storage unit could be for us.

Thinking about the reasons why self-storage units make working from home possible will form our reasons for needing them. Let us then consider what they offer working householders.

Freeing Up Space

We can only create a home office space if we can deal with our clutter. Naturally, a spare room or bedroom in our house will end up a place of storage. This cannot continue, though, if we then need that space for either a bedroom for a guest to stay in or we want to make it our workspace to conduct our job from home.

Selecting the right items to store will be important in creating the maximum amount of space for ourselves to work within. We can control how many items we take into self-storage. It is never a bad idea to look at decluttering. We can decide to dispose of our items completed during the process. This can generate money for us or benefit our local charity. The items that we will never part with can still, of course, be kept. These might be of sentimental value or items that we wish to keep in the long term for investment purposes.

Space to Think

Clutter can take away our ability to think clearly. If we are surrounded by items that do not relate to work, then we are also more likely to be distracted. Surplus items can be a health and safety risk when we can trip over them. Safety will be something we consider in the office and so an area we need to give equal prioritization to at home.

When we feel inhibited, or caged in, we do not work to our best and so will be less productive. That fact is, we need to be as productive as if we were working from the office. This will be the whole idea of creating space to think. Self-storage will make it possible by clearing away some of the home items that would otherwise surround us.

Additional Items to Accommodate

Working from home will invariably mean that we have extra equipment or working materials to accommodate. If we normally work from an office, then we will use a computer. This means that at the very least we might have an extra laptop to accommodate on our table where we will work. In addition to this, we may have larger monitors to bring home that will make working easier. Many computer tasks are made easier by having a second or larger computer screen to view things on.

You can see then how self-storage units will make working from home possible. They are a solution to freeing up the space for us to work from home. They mean that we can spread out and feel free to think of innovative ideas and how to tackle existing ones. As well, self-storage units will mean that we now have space to accommodate our essential office equipment.

Storage units will protect our items just as they are protected inside our home and so we need not worry about that. Units will be temperature and humidity controlled to ensure items are best protected while they are in storage. The solution, for that reason, can be temporary or more permanent. We may get used to working from home and want to continue that way. Our office may decide that they can rent less building space as a result. The convenience of working from home will be less travel time and the eliminating commuting and travel costs.

  1. When I first worked from home I tried to balance everything on a corner of the dining table and was forever knocking things on the floor. I have had a rearrange of the furniture and now have my very own desk with a small filing cabinet to put everything away into at the end of the day
