I love reading but I have to admit, I don’t get as much time as I’d like to just sit down and get lost in a book. I’d heard of quite a few folks using Audible, so I tried out their free trial and loved it so much, I decided to take up the subscription.
The beauty of audiobooks is that I can listen along while I get on with other jobs. I can just pop my Alexa on while cleaning or cooking and still catch up with my books. It’s a gamechanger! What’s more, there are apps available for all smartphones and tablets so you can listen on any device. I often use my headphones with my phone when I am pottering around in the garden.
Here are just a few books I’ve been listening to.
The Family Upstairs By Lisa Jewell
Based in Chelsea, A girl called Libby inherits an old mansion worth millions. Going back 25 years ago, Libby was abandoned as a baby in this mansion but all was not what it seemed. Three corpses were also discovered beside a hastily scrawled note.
There are lots of twists throughout the story that keeps you guessing. Definitely worth a listen.
The Handmaid’s Tale By Margaret Atwood
I was a little hesitant to get this at first as I had already watched the TV series and thought the audiobook might be quite samey. I was pleasantly surprised and loved this just as much as the series. It was a nice touch to have Elisabeth Moss narrating Offred, she really draws you into the zone with her.
This is a very poignant storyline but brilliant all the same.
The Flat Share By Beth O’Leary
Loved this! If you’re looking for a fun-loving, easy read then you will love this too. Tiffy and Leon share a flat yet they’ve never met! The narrators in the book do an awesome job as they really bring the characters to life. There’s lots of humour and relatable situations, it’s just awesome.
A Perfect Cornish Summer By Phillipa Ashley
A Cornish village, food festivals and finding love about sums this one up. It’s a predictable summer story, yet quite a pleasant one.
With that said, I did find it a little boring, like I couldn’t really get into it. It’s a shame because I had high hopes for this.

I am not a big reader and often think about giving audio books a try.
I loved the Handmaids Tale on TV and I have heard the books are even better. The Flat Share sounds like a lot of fun too x
The Flat Share is a brilliant book and I’ve just downloaded another Beth O’Leary novel to read. I’ve never tried listening to an audio book (unless you count children’s stories in the car!!) and am not sure if I would enjoy it. I like to see the words on a page and go back to them if necessary.
The Family Upstairs sounds right up my street.
