People that know me well will know that I was a Christmas baby. My birthday is on Christmas Eve!
I’ve always quite liked having a Christmas birthday because I get lots of presents in the space of two days. The only thing about this year was,,,,,I turned forty! I’m still not sure how I feel about that to be honest but I think I am slowly warming to it.
As 40 is a milestone birthday I thought I would list a few things that I have learned about myself along the way.
1. I’m more adventurous with my food. I used to be that person who would order chips and keema naan from the Indian restaurant! Now I will give almost anything a try, well maybe almost, just not celery. I hate that stuff!
2. Heels are a no no for me. My feet like their comfort and I’d take my Converse or Dr Martens over a pair of heels any day!
3. I no longer worry what others think. I used to spend so much time worrying about other peoples thoughts when I was younger. Life is too short for that! Obviously people are welcome to their opinions, but I for one won’t be losing any sleep over them.
4. I prefer staying in to going out. I used to be the life and soul of every party. I lived for my nights out at the weekend. Now, well, give me a Horlicks, a good box set and I’m made up for the night. Funny how things change isn’t it?!
5. The world is a much better place when you drop the negative people from your life, fact.
6. Being a mum has made me. It has completed me as a whole and makes me both happy and proud…. and a little knackered too!
7. I still hate Bounty chocolate bars! No matter how many times I’ve thought, oh I might just try one of those again perhaps I might like them now. Sadly the answer is still no.
8. I love my job. Working from home was the best decision for me and it just fits perfectly around everything else we have going on.
9. I can’t eat what I want anymore. My hips double in size when I look at chocolate! Although….I don’t want to brag, but the earrings that I wore at 18 still fit! Hehe.
10. Patience is a virtue. I had very little patience when I was younger but as time has passed I’ve learned to chill out a little and not want everything doing yesterday, (apart from jobs around the house that is).
11. Life is precious. Since Craig suffered sudden heart failure we have all learned that life is extremely precious. He was physically fit at the time and it hit us like a tonne of bricks. You never know what is around the corner and I am so grateful for my lot and that we have each other no matter what.
12. I love tattoos and have quite a few, but maybe the huge tattoo on my arm and the Taz sticking his finger up on my leg wasn’t such a good idea.
13. False nails don’t suit me. I am too much of a hands-on kind of girl. I love how pretty they look but I always end up breaking one or losing one!
14. It’s fun to learn something new. From photography to crochet, I have really enjoyed discovering new hobbies and learning something new. I intend to try lots more exciting projects in the new year.
15. It’s OK if something doesn’t work out. I think sometimes we expect far too much from ourselves. I started a course on Journalism a few years back and once I got stuck in I realised that my heart was not in it and that I prefer to carry on with my Copywriting. It’s wonderful to branch out and try new things but it’s OK if it doesn’t turn out as you expected it to.
16. I can’t master the messy bun look. I always have a feral look about me when I try it.
17. I’m at my happiest when I’m gardening. I find it therapeutic.
18. I can never have enough stationery in my life.
19. Tough times don’t last forever, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes you may just need a little help to guide you.
20. My willpower is crap when it comes to diets. Does “I’ll start Monday” sound familiar to you too?
21. My fear of wasps will never leave me.
22. I’ll never stop missing my little Staffy boy Tikka.
23. I may have a little obsession for notebooks and planners.
So there you have it. I could have gone on for ages so I’ve shortened this list down considerably!
Do you have a milestone birthday coming up? Or perhaps you’ve just had one. How do you feel about it?
Love this post! At 40 you are still a baby but we have so many things in common anyway. I am also a converse girl – I went to a wedding last night and, oh, those heels! I also hate Bounty and LOVE working from home! Unfortunately not a fan of tattoos though – sorry!
Oh we have lots in common Lisa! Tattoos aren’t everyone’s cup of tea I agree. I have some that I love and others that weren’t so well thought out!
I think being 40 is brilliant!
You are me! lol I could have written this apart from the Bounty bars bit, I do love them.
I was looking at photos from 10 years ago for the 10 year challenge and the kids saw I was wearing heels and they were fascinated. I don’t wear them now. Flats all the way for me. lol
This is ace. I am a heel hater yuk. Happy new year X #mmbc
