There is always something to be getting on with in the garden and June is no exception. Spring blooms are coming to an end as we begin to prepare for Summer shows. And we want our gardens to look nice for all of those bbq parties coming up! I’ve been making the most of this gorgeous weather and tidying up the garden with a little help from the Great Little Garden. Here are some little jobs you can be getting on with during the month of June.

Flowers
New bedding plants should be good to go out now as major frosts are now out of the way.
Be sure to use a slow release fertiliser to get an amazing bloom of colours.
Pinch out the tips of fuschias to encourage more flowers.
Cut back bulb foliage when it has died down.
Top up your potted plants. I did this just the other week. It helps to refresh the compost and put some goodness back in.
Keep an eye out for pests. Greenfly thrive at this time of year, especially on lupins!

Lawn Care
Get rid of pesky weeds using a reliable weedkiller.
Make sure to water your lawn more often as the weather warms up. Sprinklers are ideal.
I always lower the blade on the mower at this time of year for regular Summer cuts.
You can also sew some grass seed if you have any patches as we do! Mr mole keeps popping by. But don’t mow that area until the grass is at least 3 inches. It might be a good idea to lift the mower blade for that cut so you don’t scalp the new grass.

In The Greenhouse
Carry on potting those established plug plants.
Open up the door and windows on hot days to help ventilate the space. And carefully checking for trapped wasps if like me, are not keen on them. Doing a wild flapping dance in a glass building is not really safe!
Plant tomatoes and cucumbers in grow bags.

That should keep you busy for now!

Would love to #WIN this
Interesting article and a great gardening set. My trowel and fork have seen better days so I would love to win this.
These are all great tips. I have my gardens pretty much “in” now. I may pick up some more fill-in annuals when the garden centers put them on clearance! I should really invest in some good slow release fertilizer. I use Miracle Grow dirt for my pots, but I rarely fertilize my flower beds. Something to think about…
