Halloween Movies On Netflix For The Whole Family

A lady's hand holding a TV remote with black painted nails and pumpkins in the background of the room.

I am a total horror buff so I love watching a good scary movie. The more realistic and the less far-fetched, the better for me.
With Halloween almost upon us, I’ve put together a list of Halloween movies on Netflix. I have split them up into age-appropriate categories so hopefully, you should find something for the whole family to enjoy this Halloween.

For Younger Children

Super Monsters – Rated U

Super Monsters are kids of famous monsters that come together at preschool. They train to perfect the skills that they inherited from their parents. This animated series is perfect for younger children.

School Of Roars – Rated U

If you have younger children then the chances are you’ve already heard the catchy theme tune to this TV series. Five little monsters go to school and share their monstrous adventures along the way.
A perfect watch for toddlers.

Dreamworks Spooky Stories – Rated U

Our favourite Dreamworks character Shrek features in these spooky tales, along with Monsters VS Aliens. We are big fans and will be watching them again this Halloween.

Spookley The Square Pumpkin – Rated U

A storm terrorises Spookley’s patch and he has to step up and save the day. Being different resulted in him being shamed by others but not for long when they realise being different is OK and actually has its advantages!

Children sitting watching a movie in a dark room. The light off the TV is lighting up their little faces..

For Older Kids

Corpse Bride – Rated PG

This is a fab stop-motion animated musical movie. Set in a fictional Victorian village, how will a deceased woman abduct a groom into the underworld?

Nightbooks – Rated PG

Scary story fan Alex must tell a spine-tingling tale every night — or stay trapped with his new friend in a wicked witch’s magical apartment forever.

Monster house – Rated PG

A trio of friends sets out to expose the terrors of a vacant neighborhood house, which appears to have a craving for people — and a life of its own.

Check out our Halloween crafts for kids! Make some spooky decoupage letters, a creepy wreath, a glowing witches cauldron or a cute pumpkin garland.

Dark Shadows – Rated 12

An undead millionaire returns home and experiences living in 1970’s America. But little does he know an old nemesis is about to haunt him.

A black silhouette of a haunted house, a witch on a broomstick and a tombstone.

A Babysitter’s Guide To Monster Hunting – Rated PG

A secret society of babysitters recruits a schoolgirl called Kelly. She goes on a mission after the boy she was watching on Halloween is kidnapped by the bogeyman and his monsters.

R.L. Stine’s Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls – Rated 12

When a traveling horror show comes to town, Danville’s high schoolers can’t wait to check it out. But the sinister showman has an evil agenda.

For Older Teens & Grown-Ups

A Haunted House – Rated 15

This spoof on Scary Movie is so funny! A young couple settle into their new home only to discover an evil spirit is sharing it with them. This movie about matches my daft sense of humour.

A shoulders and lap shot of a person sitting on a sofa holding a tv remote in one hand and Halloween themed biscuits in the other hand. They also have a black blanket over their legs.

Hush – Rated 15

A deaf writer lives in a retreat in the middle of the woods. All hell lets loose when a masked killer shows up outside! I do love a good horror film that makes you think ‘Oh my god what would you do in that situation’. Probably find the biggest weapon I could!

Shaun of the Dead – Rated 15

Shaun has no clue what to do with his life or with his relationship, but motivation comes in the form of a freak zombie attack.
This is such a hilarious comedy/horror. It goes back to 2004 so quite an old one but I still enjoy watching it.

Run – Rated 15

Desiring freedom after years of isolated medical care, teenager Chloe suspects her mother might be holding her back — and harboring sinister secrets.

The First Purge – Rated 15

Residents try to survive a night of legalized crime ( The Purge).  For one night only, anything that is normally illegal becomes totally legal in a bid to try and cut down crime throughout the rest of the year.

The Conjuring – Rated 15

This supernatural movie is based on true events. The story is about a New England family who begin to have encounters with spirits in their farmhouse. Definitely one that makes you jump!

A Nightmare On Elm Street – Rated 18

I love all of the Freddie films. I used to be terrified of them when I was younger, my eldest brother used to watch them and I saw one the once and hardly slept after that!

Halloween – Rated 18

Is it even Halloween if you haven’t watched Halloween? Michael Myers is another one of my favourite horror characters. It always makes you feel like triple-checking that the doors are locked before you go to bed! Hehe.

Series

Midnight Mass – Rated 15 (1 season)

The arrival of a charismatic young priest brings glorious miracles, ominous mysteries and renewed religious fervor to a dying town desperate to believe.

I would have added The Lost Boys, my absolute favourite movie but it is not currently available on Netflix, only Sky.

What is your favourite horror movie? Or perhaps you don’t like them! I would love to know.

  1. I also absolutely love horrors but rarely find anything that gets my heart beating fast with fear, maybe one of these will.

  2. Although I support my makeup artist daughter throughout Halloween as it is one of her most productive times, I confess I’m not a fan of scary films or dress up looks, I don’t mind a bit of supernatural stuff but out and out gore & terror is not for me, so Scooby Doo is about as scary as it gets in our house over Halloween 🙂

  3. I am not a horror or scary movie fan at all.. my Halloween movies are more like The Addams family or Casper. LOL. We do try to find a new movie to watch each Halloween though as my boys are no longer trick or treating. Thanks for the suggestions!
