Creating the perfect guest room. A nuetral room with handy storage.

We all know the scenario that comes with having a ‘spare room’. Slowly it becomes a convenient space to hoard all of those random belongings that in the majority of cases, will never be used. Before you know it, it is the new dumping ground for this, that and the other! Well, why not create an inviting space for friends and family to stay over? After all it is an extra room in the house, you might as well put it to good use. Check out these 5 tips for creating a guest room.

Storage

Make the most of even the smallest space. Places such as IKEA sell some fab storage solutions. You could even store some of your own belongings in there, concealed away from your guests. If you have a very small room then why not invest in a run of drawers instead of a wardrobe? And hang shelves with additional hooks for your guests to make use of.

Soft Furnishings

Add texture and colour to the room with some nice neutral soft furnishings. Take care not to go too bold, as this may not be everyone’s cup of tea!
Buy some nice plump pillows and keep spares in a vacuum sac to give the guest the option of adding more pillows if they prefer.
You could also fill a wicker basket with fresh towels and dressing gowns to make them feel at home.

Lighting

Make sure there is adequate lighting. There is nothing more uninviting than a poorly lit room. Use some LED bulbs for a brighter light which also has a longer life than standard bulbs. Pop some bedside lights in there to accommodate bedtime reading.

Electricals

Not everybody can fall to sleep straight away. Invest in a small TV so your guests can wind down whilst catching up with favourite programmes. It would make a nice touch to put a travel kettle on a side table along with supplies so your guests can help themselves to refreshments.

Do you have a guest room?
