A lady wearing a striped dress

We don’t all get invited to dress up and go out every day, or even every week. I don’t get to go out as often as once a month even, so I generally don’t get much of an opportunity to wear my favourite formal dresses. They hang lonely in my closet until someone decides I’m cool enough to come along.

That seems a bit silly, so here are some ways you can incorporate a formal dress into some unique events to get more use out of them and wear them more often.

Date Night

You don’t have to wait for an invite to wear your formal dresses. Ask your husband out for a date, don your best attire, and go to the restaurant down the street. Sure, you might get some strange looks, but it’s all in good fun, and you can laugh about it later. You don’t have to put a lot of thought into it. Just do it.

Pictures

Setting up a time to take pictures with some of your favourite people is a great way to get more use out of your formal dresses. Invite your girlfriends over for a picture party, dress up in your old prom dresses, and have a few snacks and drinks.

Wine and Cheese

Speaking of snack and drinks, forget the pictures and just invite your friends over for wine and cheese in fancy dresses. Or whatever it is you like to drink. It really doesn’t matter at this point. Just enjoy yourselves.

Family Events

Does your family have a party every Christmas? Then drag out your holiday best. You could float the idea to your family of turning the annual get-together into a fancy event, but even if they don’t respond, you can start a new trend yourself.

Have Your Own Party

Have a lovely formal dress lying around that you haven’t worn in years? Throw your own party! Invite all of your closest friends. Have tea. Have cake. Have hors d’oeuvres. Create your own ambience and make a night to remember.
