Well, the summer holidays are nearly upon us. So many of us enjoy holidays in the U.K. in fact 56% of us staycationed in 2017 and that number grows steadily year on year. Some of us are fortunate enough to own a touring caravan or motorhome. We have had a touring caravan in the past and it was great fun. Take everything you need with you wherever you go, and we all know with little kiddies just how much you need to take with you!
We used to make a list of everything that we needed to get loaded or sort before we headed off to make sure that we never forgot anything, although we always managed to have left something behind!
One thing that is often overlooked on caravans and motor homes is their tyres. Everybody knows that your tyres need to have a minimum of 1.6mm tread. Responsible drivers will also make sure that the tyre pressures are correct before starting a journey. What many people do not know is that many tyre manufacturers recommend that tyres on motor homes and caravans are replaced every 5 years regardless of tread depth or condition.
Tyres are not just made of rubber. There are many different chemicals that are added to the compounds to give better traction, durability and comfort. The nature of motor homes and caravans though means that they are often stood for long periods of time. So rust can set in, meaning a welding company might be needed and tyres will need to be checked. When when you come to use them, they are taken on a long run at high temperatures with lots of weight being exerted on them. This recipe is not good for the tyres and that is why we see so many caravans suffering from a blow out on the side of our roads in the summer months.
That’s why it is important to maintain a good relationship with tyre specialists, just like the ones in Thatcham ie: Headley tyres.
In fact, it is becoming so common now that many U.K. insurers are refusing to pay out for claims that have originated from a tyre blow out that is over 5 years of age!
We cannot see what is happening inside our tyres when they are fitted, which is why it is always best to take our vehicles to reputable tyre specialists. Get car tyres in Thatcham from Headley Tyres website
