Planning a family holiday should be exciting, but when you’re travelling with children, there’s so much to think about that it can easily become overwhelming. Fortunately, Greece is one destination that’s perfect for families. I’ve been many times and have always had the best holidays.
With short flights from the UK, beautiful beaches, and plenty of activities for kids of all ages, it’s the ideal getaway.
Plan Ahead for Smooth Journeys
Greece is a top choice amongst UK families, ranking fifth among holiday destinations in 2025, so the earlier you start planning, the better. Booking your flights, ferries, and accommodation well in advance will not only help you get the best deals, but it will also help you avoid the disappointment of discovering your dream villa is already booked up for the dates you want.
If you’re not constrained by term times and school holidays, it might be worth travelling outside of peak season, when prices are lower, and tourist hotspots are less crowded. Consider flight times too, and the practicalities of flying very early or late in the day if you have little ones.
Pack Smart and Prepare for the Climate
Greece is blessed with a classic Mediterranean climate. This means hot, dry summers with temperatures in the thirties during peak season. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen with a high SPF rating, as well as light, loose clothing, hats, and sunglasses.
If you’re travelling with young children or babies, you’ll need to take extra care in the sun, and keep them in the shade when the sun is at its hottest – usually between about 11am and 2pm. Be sure to download local weather apps before you go to get an accurate and up-to-date idea of what the weather will be like during your stay.

Stay Somewhere Comfortable and Flexible
Your choice of accommodation will depend on your needs as a family. If you don’t want to think about meal preparation, for example, an all-inclusive resort might fit the bill perfectly. Hotels will often have family rooms with travel cots and fold-out beds, or interconnecting rooms that can work well for families travelling with older children who will appreciate the extra privacy.
Alternatively, for those wanting more space, privacy, and freedom, there are plenty of charming villa options in Greece for families. While villas are typically self-catering, there’s always the option of dining out. Plus, having separate bedrooms and living areas means parents don’t need to go to bed at the same time as the little ones, or similarly, can head to bed before the teenagers!
Choose Family-Friendly Activities
The Greek Islands are absolutely jam-packed with a wide range of attractions suitable for all ages. From stunning, soft-sand beaches with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for paddling, swimming, snorkelling and watersports, to exploring ancient ruins and getting a glimpse into Greece’s rich history, there really is something for everyone.
You could be exploring the Acropolis in Athens one day, and heading to one of the world’s biggest water parks the next. Don’t forget to include a few chill days in your itinerary, so that you have time to relax by the pool or on the beach and soak up some of that glorious Greek sunshine and stunning scenery.
I love Greece and have always found the locals very friendly
