Many children aren’t a huge fan of school uniform, but it serves a purpose and is actually quite beneficial for both students, teachers, and even parents. I have teamed up with a prep school in Surrey to discuss these benefits in greater detail below.
Saves Money for Parents
You might resent having to spend a lot of money on school uniform at the beginning of each academic year, and replacing it as your child outgrows it, but doing so is actually more cost-effective than filling your child’s wardrobe with a different outfit for each day. This is particularly true if your child is keen to keep up with the latest trends. School uniform is usually quite hardy, so it should last longer than the fast fashion you get in high street stores. It might help if you sew name tags in your child’s uniform so that they’re less likely to misplace it.
Smart Representation of the School
It’s far easier for teachers to ensure each of their students are dressed smartly and representing the school in a favourable way if they are all dressed in uniform. This is because the lines are less blurry when it comes to what is and isn’t acceptable and its easier to spot when a student isn’t conforming to the rules.
Reduces Bullying
Studies have found that in schools where there is no uniform regulation, bullying is more prominent. Children are more likely to be judged or harassed if they’re not wearing something considered “cool”, which certainly isn’t fair for those who come from families who cannot afford to keep up with the latest trends and designer fashion. With that said, school uniform reduces the likelihood of children being picked on and puts less pressure on them in the morning when they’re picking out an outfit.
