High scool aged girls sitting by a tree revising

The final years at school are the most stressful. Children worry about their exams and what they’re going to do next after they leave. As a parent, you can help them along this journey by giving them moral support and helping them to get organised. We have teamed up with a boarding school in Wiltshire to share the ways in which you can do this.

Encourage Them to Start Sooner Rather Than Later

Their exams may be a way off but starting revision early will put them in the best position possible for when exam season comes around. They will have all bases covered plus extra time to consolidate their learning and speak to their teachers regarding the areas that they’re struggling with.

Create a Timetable

While they may be confident in what they’re doing, a time table creates a plan of action and can help them to accurately plan and manage their own expectations. It’s not realistic to cram everything in the space of a week or expect to cover all course content by spending next to no time revising. Planning ahead and allocating time accordingly to their subjects will help them to prevent burn out.

This is something that they can do by asking for all of their exam dates, scheduling them into their calendar and calculating how much time they have to revise. Then, based on that, their concentration limits and free time, they can decide on how much time they want to spend on revision.

Lend an Ear

While it may sound like an entirely different language, listening as they go over their notes can help children to be more confident in their studies and revise. You can even test them to help them see whether further revision is needed.
