Children are like sponges when it comes to learning and one of the most effective ways they absorb knowledge is through hands-on experiences. They need the chance to get messy, whether it’s sticky, muddy, feeling cold, or warmth. Using their hands and engaging their senses helps them learn in meaningful ways, and it’s important to nurture that process. Most children prefer learning by doing rather than just reading or listening, and when they have these opportunities outside the classroom, the benefits can be even greater.
Children do not need to be sat at a desk to learn something new. They need to be engaged and excited and one skill they can always use in life is gardening.
Gardening isn’t just a healthy activity for children to enjoy, it’s fun and educational. It’s exciting and it engages even those who aren’t a big fan of the great outdoors. They can learn the use of gardening tools, from spades to panda film. They can learn which seeds to plant and in which seasons. They also get the fun of digging, planting and growing their own food. They’ll learn the whole lifecycle of the plants in the garden and so much more!
How To Be Responsible
Children can gain a lot of skills when they’re gardening, and responsibility is one such skill. They’ll learn how to be responsible for plants, the wildlife and the world around them and this will stand them in good stead for all aspects of life. Gardening encourages children to be responsible for themselves and their accomplishments.
How To Be Creative
Gardening really does bring out the creativity in children, and stimulating their imaginations is important. It can be achieved when you introduce them to fruit, vegetables and flowers and they can mix and match colours to learn how to compliment the things that they are growing. The garden allows them to explore, achieve and be creative. They can also discover new ways to grow new things.
Learning Proper Nutrition
Increasingly, families are requiring adequate nutritional education to give their children the best start in life. With gardening, children can learn about the different fruit and vegetables seeds that they are planting and give their all with learning which foods are good for them to eat. They’ll learn why carrots are good for them, and which fruits are good for digestion and skincare. Being outside can be the best place to learn about nutrition, and it goes hand in hand with an excellent education of nutrition.
Sensory Development
Children learn how to develop their senses when they learn with senses and they can develop core life skills along the way. Children are sponges, and being able to teach them how to smell, touch and see the things that they are planting helps them to develop a powerful sensory process.
