Let’s be honest, creating a beautiful home when you’ve got kids isn’t always easy. Between muddy shoes by the back door, bags dumped on the sofa and those mysterious sticky fingerprints that appear from nowhere, interior perfection can sometimes feel like a bit of a distant dream.
Our house definitely works hard. It’s a place for Lego building, biscuit eating, movie nights and the occasional chaotic game of indoor football, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But while I love a cosy, lived-in home, I still want it to feel stylish too.
That’s why I’m a big fan of simple updates rather than big dramatic makeovers. New curtains, a different blind, a few fresh touches here and there. These small changes add style to a busy family home, and make a room feel new again without turning life upside down.
Slowly Putting Our Stamp on This House
We’ve been in this house for less than a year, so I’m still very much in the “working it out” stage. The living room has stayed fairly neutral while I figured out what I actually want, but now I’m starting to feel braver about adding a bit more colour and pattern around the place.
When I spotted the new Spice Trail Collection by Linda Barker, it felt right up my street. Not too loud, not too safe, just enough interest to give a room a lift.
Patterns That Feel Liveable
The collection is inspired by Indian archive designs, lovely florals, rich colours and classic patterns, but in a way that still feels modern and easy to live with.
There are four different designs in the range: Chennai, Jaipur, Agra and Bidar. All quite different, but with that same warm, cosy feel running through them. And honestly, patterned fabrics are a bit of a lifesaver in family homes. They’re forgiving, they hide the odd mark, and they make a space feel welcoming instead of precious. Exactly what I need!
The Joy of an Easy Update
What really appeals to me is that this range is all about curtains and blinds. No redecorating required, no big upheaval, just a straightforward change that can make a huge difference.
It’s amazing how something as simple as new curtains can make a tired room feel fresh again. A bit of colour, a bit of texture, and suddenly everything looks more pulled together. I’ve already got a few spots in mind at home that could do with a little lift.
My Favourite Picks
If I had to choose a favourite, I keep coming back to the Bidar design. It’s cheerful without being too much, and I can picture it working in all sorts of spaces.
I’m also very tempted by the idea of using one of the bolder prints somewhere small like the hallway or downstairs loo. Those rooms are perfect for having a bit of fun without committing to anything major.
Style Without the Stress
What I like most about this whole range is that it feels realistic. It’s about making your home feel nicer, not turning it into a showroom.
You can have pretty patterns and stylish touches while still living normally with kids, pets, mess and all.
Sometimes the smallest updates make the biggest difference, and right now that sounds like exactly the kind of decorating I need.
