The kitchen is the hub of any property; it is one of the busiest rooms within the home. It is the setting for a lot of memories and provides the backing for the daily mundanity. Your kitchen organisation can greatly impact how you feel. Messy and disorganised rooms can make you feel more stressed. Is your kitchen efficacy maximised? If not, read on for some helpful tips and tricks.
Consider Your Current Kitchen
Is your kitchen fit for purpose? Some kitchens are poorly designed, they are outdated, and they cannot handle the demands of modern life. They haven’t got enough space or useful features. If you aren’t happy with your kitchen, you won’t be motivated to keep it tidy and organised. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint or updated hardware is all it takes. However, sometimes you need to overhaul your kitchen completely. For example, consider a painted kitchen from Kessler; their kitchens are made with you in mind and designed to suit your needs. Having a kitchen that you can be proud of, one that is geared towards your needs, is important. Installing a new kitchen can also increase the value of your property.
Start by Planning
Before you begin haphazardly tidying away clutter. You need to take a bit of time to think about the layout of your kitchen. What items or areas do you use the most? Consider this when planning the flow of your kitchen. Move things around so that the things that you use often are within reach. Move the things that you don’t use very much further away. The way that you decide to arrange your kitchen goes a long way in maximising its functionality.
Get Rid of Clutter
Go through your kitchen cabinets and start to clear out anything that you don’t need or use. Donate them to charity if they’re in good shape and throw them away if not. You might find that your kitchen is housing a lot of things that don’t belong in there. Rehome these items and clear some space. The space that you make could be better used to organise your kitchen. This goes for both your cupboards and your drawers. Some people prefer to work cupboard by cupboard and drawer by drawer, emptying out the content and organising it that way.
Test Your Appliances
Everyone is guilty of buying needless appliances that get used once and then ushed to the back of a cupboard. Most of the time, they represent a passing fad, nothing more than a waste of money. When going over your appliances, you should ask yourself: do I need it, use it, and would I buy it today? As well as considering whether or not you need them in the decluttering process, it is also necessary to test them regularly. They need testing to ensure that they are in proper working order. Faulty appliances can be dangerous.
The Worktops
Do your best to minimise the amount of things that take up space on your worktops. It is easy to allow things to pile up when you’re running late or in a hurry. It’s even worse when there are children running around. The worktops become a dumping ground. Before you know it, all the space is gone. Take advantage of innovative storage solutions. You can get hanging storage for the inside of your cupboard doors. You can also use things like trays on the countertops to regulate the clutter, keeping it in its designated areas to free up more counter space. You could also put a storage basket in the kitchen for everything that doesn’t actually belong in there. You can then put those items back at your leisure without having them clutter up the room.
Storage Solutions
There are a lot of different storage solutions that you could take advantage of. You can use risers or over the door hangers in your cupboards. This creates more space and allows you to fit more things in. You can find slim sliding draws which can fit down the gaps between appliances or cupboards. Awkwardly shaped cupboards are hard to organise because of their limited access. Make the most use of these cupboards by installing lazy Susan’s to improve your access to the items at the back. You can install hooks onto your walls or over your island to hold pots and pans. Consider the space that you have and what would work best for you. Don’t forget to think about a budget too.
To Conclude
The heart of the home is the kitchen; a home isn’t complete without one. However, that doesn’t mean that you love your kitchen or love being in it. Freshening up your kitchen and doing your best to keep it tidy and organised is the first step. Do your best to create a functional space that you love being in.
