Flymo Easistore 300R Li Cordless Lawnmower

When we moved into our home almost 8 months ago now, the garden to the rear of the property had never been maintained. There was no lawn, hence us recently laying new turf.
Having an electric mower really isn’t an option as we have a weir running around our home, so having to set up the extension every time we cut the lawn would be quite tedious. So when Flymo got in touch and asked if we would like to try the Flymo Easistore 300R Li cordless mower, we were over the moon.

As with the majority of mowers, the Easistore came packaged unassembled. The only assembly is the handle which comes in two pieces. The bolts all have plastic fittings so you do not need any tools at all and assembly took less than 10 minutes. You then have to click the two halves of the grass box together.
Once assembled we charged the batteries. This particular mower uses 2 x 20V Lithium-Ion batteries that take 2 hours to fully charge.

The batteries have built-in status indicators. You simply press the green button on the battery and between one and three lights will illuminate showing you how much charge the battery contains. When the batteries are charging the lights flash and when fully charged all three lights are lit. The charger also has a light that glows red when charging and green when fully charged.
The compact hood on top houses both the batteries and the ignition key.

The mower comes with two ignition keys. I think these are a great safety feature especially with kids around. When you need to leave the mower to empty the grass box you can simply remove the key and be safe in the knowledge that the mower cannot be switched on.

The ignition key is not the only safety switch, there is also a safety button on the centre of the handlebar that needs to be pressed simultaneously with the grip switches to engage the motor. Once running you can just hold the grip switches on the handlebar, and to stop the mower, simply let go.

The EasiStore 300R Li comes with a super-sharp metal cutting blade, unlike some brands that use plastic. The blade cuts the grass cleanly without tugging at the turf. A full catalogue is provided with the mower for you to easily purchase spares when of if you should need them.

This Flymo model has three cutting heights. 25mm, 45mm and 65mm. Adjusting the cutting height is simple, just pull the wheel towards the centre of the mower to release the axle from the height slot, then reposition it in whichever height you require. There are strong, stainless steel springs that keep the axles in place during use, reducing the risk of the height adjusting halfway through mowing your lawn.

The grass box on this model is rigid. This makes carrying and emptying the grass cuttings simple and stress-free.

The biggest feature on this mower is how simple it is to store. The name EasiStore gives it away really but I cannot stress enough just how well thought out this design really is. You simply release the two clamps at the bottom of the handle.

Fold the handle over the top of the mower and clip the grass box to the handle. You can then store the mower in an upright position in less than one square foot of floor space!

We used to have a Flymo petrol rotary mower which has served us for well over ten years. When we first saw the new Flymo battery-powered range we didn’t think that they would be anywhere near as good as our old mower. They are so much more compact and light. After using the battery-powered mower for the first time, I must admit I was wrong to judge a book by its cover! It is more than powerful to cut grass at any length, leaves a great finish and is so light to handle.

The assembled mower weighs in at less than 10kg so is an especially good choice for people that find mowing too much of a difficult task. The battery should last long enough to trim 250 square metres of grass, this obviously depends on how long the grass is. We managed to cut our new lawn on our garden, as well as a few hundred feet of overgrown towpath before ours needed recharging.

Overall I would say that the Flymo EasiStore 300R Li is fantastic value for money and really worth checking out if you are in the market to either replace your petrol or your corded electric mower.
