A child writing thank you on a piece of paper.

Gratitude plays a huge role in an adult’s development and wellbeing towards others and is often fostered from attitudes shown in their younger years. Knowing the benefits of practicing gratitude in front of our children will give them the chance to develop life-building skills that they can use through all walks of life. From an appreciation of something kind to knowing when to help others when they need it, we take a look at the ways children can adopt these qualities from this private kindergarten in New York.

Spend time with your children often

It can be tricky when your child’s at school all day and you’re stuck working or having to keep up with the many chores of the home, but even an hour or so a day can give your child something to look forward to and cherish. Remove all distractions during this time and have your undivided attention on your child. Show them the different ways to express empathy and speak to them about how to be mindful in front of others.

Allow your child the freedom

Allow a democratic style of raising your child, which still ensures that you’re being firm and honest in front of them. Show them that while they can be themselves where they’re able to they also have to be respectful and polite. Let them take ownership of their skills and allow them to express independent thoughts and feelings.

Help your child focus on their goals

Let your child pursue the dreams they want to achieve by encouraging them to look at hobbies and interests that they’re keen to take up. Pushing them towards goals that they have a deep interest in will make them more likely to be involved in community projects, converse with others, make new friends and understand their own individual purpose as well as improving their own personal development.
