I’ve always loved spring. Everything feels lighter, brighter, and a bit more hopeful, which naturally spills over into the crafts we do at home. This paper flower craft is one of those easy wins, simple to set up and perfect for adding a splash of colour.

What you’ll need
This is one of those crafts that doesn’t require a special trip to the shops, which automatically makes it a winner in my book. Chances are you already have most of this tucked away somewhere.
You’ll need:
- Coloured paper or card
- Scissors
- Glue (a glue stick works well)
- A hole punch
- Paper straws (or anything similar for stems)
That’s it! Simple, manageable, and easy to set up, even when patience levels are low.
How to make your paper flowers
Start by cutting your paper into strips. I used strips around 16cm long and 1cm wide, but there’s no need to be exact here. Thicker strips make chunkier petals, and wider ones are often easier for younger children to handle.
Once your strips are ready, bring the ends together to create a loop and glue them in place. Repeat this until you’ve got a small pile of loops ready to go.
Next, punch out a circle from card for the centre of the flower. Stick your loops around the edge of the circle, spacing them out evenly. You can layer more loops on top if you want a fuller look, this is a good moment to let kids decide how their flower should look.
Finally, attach a paper straw to the back to create the stem, and your flower is done.

Making it work for different ages
This is one of those crafts that’s really easy to adapt depending on who’s taking part. Younger children might need help with cutting and gluing, but they’ll love choosing colours and arranging the petals. Older children can manage the whole thing themselves and experiment with different sizes, shapes, and designs.
You can keep it very simple or turn it into a longer activity by making a whole bunch of flowers at once.

Why I love this craft
Apart from the obvious spring colours, I like that this paper flower craft encourages kids to slow down a bit. There’s cutting, sticking, and figuring out how pieces fit together, all great for fine motor skills without feeling like “learning”.
It’s also one of those crafts where the end result actually looks nice. These flowers work just as well stuck in a jar, taped to the wall, or used as part of a bigger display, which makes the effort feel worthwhile.

Have you been making any spring crafts with the kids?
