The month of May sees me planning for birthdays and one very special one in particular. This month my big boy turns 9! Time really seems to have flown by for sure. It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since I was planning gifts for an 8-year-old! As my son’s birthday is just a couple of weeks away, I thought I would share some of the things we have for Jayden. I hope it gives you some inspiration for birthday gifts for 9-year-olds.
My boys both love anything remotely to do with How To Train Your Dragon. They already have how to train your dragon plush toys and console games, they really are massive fans. Much to their delight, Spinmaster has an absolutely awesome range of toys that all HTTYD fans will just love. There are the mystery dragon packs, available in singular blind bags or as a double pack. The double pack shows one dragon whilst the other is kept a mystery. These are fantastic collectable figures and have common, rare and hard to find dragons to add to your collection. The dragon and viking sets feature incredible detail. The dragons are posable and the viking riders come with a weapon. Toothless fires dragon blast projectiles while Lightfury has flapping wings. These figures are great to recreate scenes from the movies and offer endless fun for any HTTYD fan!

Do you have a dinosaur fan? Then this Personalised Dinosaur Watch will make an extra special gift. It has a comfortable rubber strap with colourful dinosaurs on and there is a beautifully coloured dinosaur on the watch hands. You can also have this personalised with a little message of your choice. This watch is perfect for little ones, not only the hours are marked, but also there are markings for the minutes. Five-minute intervals and 1/4 past, half past and a quarter to are all marked to help.

My eldest loves drawing so this Personalised 67-Piece Wooden Art Case filled with everything you could possibly need to make a marvellous masterpiece, is perfect. It has paints, crayons, coloured pencils, a sharpener, an eraser, paintbrushes and more. As you can see, this can also be personalised with the name of your choice. I know my eldest will get so much use from this both now and for the foreseeable future.

Untamed has been a fond favourite in our house for a while now. They have just launched two new ranges which are easily as much fun as all of the previous animals. The Shockwave Untamed Dragon knows friend or foe and reacts differently depending on how you play with it. When it gets angry, an LED glows in their jaws and the SFX lets you know just how angry you have made it. When you act kindly the SFX change and they become calmer. These are also compatible with the new app, Untamed ARena. This is a free app available through the app store and Google Play. You scan your dragon into the AR app and then battle with friends or anonymous players. The Untamed Mad Lab Minis are a great, fun collectable. The geopod comes filled with Geoslime, Biosand, or Terraclay along with a mini creature. You can classify your creature and then mutate it by swapping heads and bodies with other mini beasties to create up to 1000 unique monsters.

You cannot go wrong with a collectable. Micro Motorz is a fun new mini car collectable. The pack has three chambers, each with a surprise inside. The one chamber has a Micro Motorz inside with a little display case that can be connected to other cars. Inside this is a launcher to send your car whizzing off! The second chamber has a tool to use with the car and the third chamber a tuning accessory to pimp up the car.

Jayden loves building kits so he is going to love this Meccano 10-in-1 Model Rally Racer. Kids can learn all about engineering as they build up this car. Afterwards, they can take it all apart and build one of the other 10 unique designs. You get 2 ergonomic tools to build a model and an easy-to-follow instruction guide to help you along. STEM kits are fantastic because they help learn through play.

We are no stranger to Monster Jam as this is another one of Jayden’s loves! I think we are going to have to arrange a trip to a Monster Jam event because I know he will be in his element. We had his favourite Monster Jam truck, Mohawk Warrior imported from the US because we couldn’t get any here in the UK at the time. They are now available here thanks to Spinmaster! And Jayden is going to want them all.
This 1:64 scale Monster Jam Monster Trucks Pack – Storm Damage and Blue Thunder will be perfect to build his collection with. I love the quality of these, they aren’t like your cheap average plastic toys, they are sturdy and built to last.
We homeschool and I do like to buy quite a few educational toys so that my boys can learn through play. This fab GeoSafari Microscope from Learning Resources does just that! It has an impressive 48 pieces to use alongside the microscope. There are three prepared slides, so all you have to do is install two AA batteries (not supplied) and you are ready to go straight out of the box. There is also everything you could possibly need to make up your own slides, you just need to choose and collect your own specimen which is a whole new adventure.
It has glass optics and power settings from 50x to 600x magnifications for super clear viewing.

Another educational brand that makes great gifts for 9-year-olds is Tech Will Save Us and their Creative Coder Kit. This wearable device can be programmed with simple block-based coding. The easy to learn code can program endless games that interact with the device to make it blink, wiggle and light up when you move. There is also free access to the club, which enables you to discover new projects and tasks.

A collectable that I know Jayden will love is the Pop Pop Snotz collectables! Pop Pop Snotz are little pods full of stretchy slime and little gross characters to collect. They come in packs of 6 and 12. Pop the Pop Pops slime filled bubbles and see which one of the collectable gross Snotz characters you collect. There are 60 Snotz characters to discover in total. These make perfect gifts and as they start from just £4.99, little ones can save up their pocket money and add to their collection. Also brilliant as rewards, such as doing well at school or helping out at home.
