When we moved into our home just over 6 months ago, it was blatantly obvious that we had our work cut out for us. It is a beautiful little cottage that we live in surrounded by countryside but the decor is tired. I hated the bathroom with a passion! With it’s vile dark green and orange tiles, yellow walls, beige lino flooring and a suite that had seen better days. It was so dated as you will see as you read further. Lucky for us the lovely folk at bathandshower.com came to our rescue and helped us transform it into a contemporary haven that we absolutely love.
Before
First to go was those hideous tiles. I have always loved the look of metro brick tiles so that is what we decided on.
Next was to install the Blanco vanity unit and basin in walnut. We moved the sink to the back wall which will give us more space. I love how compact the basin unit is. There is ample space inside with a shelf for your bits and bobs and the doors are soft closing. We continued with the metro tiles to provide a splashback for the sink.
All of the wood panelling was removed from the back wall and we took down the existing towel rail which was in a really odd place right next to the toilet. We were then ready to install the new toilet. We chose the Horizon close coupled toilet with a soft close seat which is ideal for when the boys use the toilet.
The yellow walls were another thumbs down from us. It was just so garish and I couldn’t wait to replace it with a nice neutral tone. After trying out a few different shades we finally went with Dulux Nutmeg White. I love it!
The old towel rail was white but we wanted something that would compliment the new taps so this curved heated towel rail in a chrome finish is what we went for. This is really good value for money considering it has such a high-quality finish and is such a large size -1200 x 500mm.
This is the how the metro tiled wall turned out. I think it opens up the room no end and reflects so much light around the bathroom. It feels so airy in there now.
The old bath panels were only lengths of hardboard so we replaced them with 18mm Attica Walnut Bath Panels. These are nice and sturdy and gives a contemporary finish to the bath.
With the old taps absolutely knackered I wasn’t sorry to see them go. The chrome coating was starting to peel and they were riddled with limescale. There was also damage on the edge of the bath which is such a shame as I really like the enamel bath and didn’t really want to replace it, so we repaired it.
I was super impressed with the shiny new Selena bath taps. They make such a difference and really show the other ones up that’s for sure! And with a little TLC on the bath, it looks as good as new.
We also have a matching Selena mixer tap for the sink unit which came with a click-clack basin waste.
White panel flooring finished off the overall look nicely.
After
I am absolutely over the moon with our new bathroom. I can’t thank bathandshower.com enough for turning our little bathroom from what used to be an uninviting space to a beautiful retreat where I now actually look forward to escaping to for a nice long soak. It’s amazing what you can do with a little planning, even in a tiny space like this.
