I absolutely love this time of year. Once the darker evenings start creeping in, I’m more than happy to get cosy at home, stick a box set on and snuggle up on the sofa with Craig. There is one downside to winter though, those dark afternoons and evenings can feel a little gloomy!
That’s probably why I love getting the Christmas decorations out so much. There’s something about having the tree up and twinkly lights dotted around the house that instantly makes everything feel warmer and cosier.
Getting the House Ready for Christmas
We’ve always made a bit of an occasion out of decorating the house for Christmas. Christmas songs go on, the decorations come down from storage and I inevitably get distracted going through all the little handmade bits the boys have made over the years.
Those are still some of my favourite decorations. They might not match the rest of the tree perfectly, but they come out every year regardless!
Then, of course, there are the lights. I love that warm, cosy glow you get when the main lights are switched off and the Christmas tree and decorations are all twinkling away.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Aldi has long been one of those places where I like to have a nosey around the Christmas Specialbuys. Over the years they’ve had everything from traditional Christmas lights and decorations to some of the more fun and quirky pieces.
This colourful garland was such a simple one, but perfect for adding a little extra colour around the house.

Creating a Little Christmas Village
I’ve always loved those miniature Christmas village displays, especially when they’re lit up in the evening. These little rustic buildings were ideal for creating one.
Add some artificial snow, little bottle brush trees and a few miniature festive accessories and you can create your own little snowy village scene on a sideboard, windowsill or mantel.

Wall decorations are another easy way to add something festive without taking up any surface space. Light-up Christmas canvases can look lovely when the room is dimmed, especially alongside the glow from the tree.
If you want something a bit more personal for the wall, a personalised paint by numbers kit made from your own photo makes a lovely (and completely one of a kind) Christmas decoration too.

Don’t Forget Outside
I love seeing houses with their outdoor Christmas lights up too. You don’t necessarily have to go completely over the top either, although I do have a soft spot for the houses that do!
Something as simple as icicle lights around the front of the house can look really pretty and give you that lovely festive welcome when you arrive home on a dark December evening.
Check out these lovely 24 giant icicles, they look so pretty.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a power point near by, as there are battery powered LED sets available that will light up the garden for up to 6 hours every day.

And here’s one that the kids will just love! A 6ft Inflatable Tree! Isn’t it just awesome?

Christmas Decorating on a Budget
One thing I do like about Christmas decorating is that you don’t need to replace everything each year. We’ve collected decorations over the years and I actually prefer bringing the old favourites back out rather than starting again with a completely new theme every Christmas.
Adding one or two new pieces, changing where you put your lights or creating a little festive display can make things feel different without spending a fortune.
Aldi Specialbuys can be worth keeping an eye on in the run-up to Christmas, as the seasonal ranges change regularly and popular items can disappear quickly.

I will be heading down to Aldi. I really like the little wooden house and the cage style boxes with fairy lights. They will look great in my house for Christmas.
Eek! I am so excited for Christmas….
I love all of these lights….The present one’s are so cute…I think I will have to be visiting Aldi soon x
The parcel lights are lovely and would be perfect for my hearth. Aldi here I come :).
I LOVE those light up presents! They are so pretty and look great quality too! We have our Christmas lights up outside the house already, we’ve done it earlier as I need photos for the blog, and we decorate the front room too. I do have to limit any little decorations, especially anything that is easily broken, as these three destroy anything in their reach!
Wow lots of fab festive lights and products from Aldi – I must go and have a nosey instore!
I love all of them! The inflatable Christmas tree is fab – it makes me want to chuckle but my favorite was the presents with sparkly lights.
I love going out and buying Christmas decorations, always makes me feel more Christmassy. I’m debating buying a new tree this year x
I totally love the look of this village building. Off to check other three designs.

I love that Santa photo! I had to go to their website to buy one for my living room as it would fit perfectly, but alas, it’s in store only and our nearest Aldi is south across 200 miles of sea.
I love Christmas lights , but I rarely put them up as I’m scared they’ll end up staying up all year round !!
This will be my second Christmas in my apartment and this year I want to go all out. I don’t normally decorate but this year it’s different. Loving all these ALDI Christmas decorations
