I absolutely love fall decor and autumn crafts. I’ve made all sorts over the years. I’ve crocheted an autumnal garland, pumpkin pom-poms, an autumnal table display and many more. My all-time favourite is these fabric pumpkins and they’re super simple to make.
Creating an autumnal display – Easy fabric pumpkin
I have quite a few fat quarters in my stash so I used those for my pumpkins. If you don’t have any fabric, you could always use an arm from an old sweater.
I cut my fabric down to roughly 9″x 22″. When you have your fabric to the size you want, you then need to fold it in half with the inside facing out and sew a seam along the side.
I then pulled on the two ends and tightened until the hole closed up tightly. Tie off and turn the good side out.
I used some craft stuffing to fill my pumpkin. You could use an old pillow if you have one.
When my pumpkin felt plump enough, I then repeated the gathering stitch around the top, pulled it tight and tied off.
I now had my basic pumpkin shape. I just needed to create some ribs, like the defined lines you see on a real pumpkin. I did this by using some yarn and a darning needle. I didn’t cut a piece of yarn off, just in case I didn’t have enough to go around the pumpkin. I kept it attached to the skein and pulled a few feet loosely to give enough play to manoeuvre the needle.
Thread your needle and go through the centre of the bottom of your pumpkin and straight out of the top. Pull some excess yarn and go over the pumpkin and feedback through the bottom. repeat until you are happy with the number of segments

I went on to make two more pumpkins using different patterned fabrics. I used my glue gun to stick on some branches that the kids and I found on our walk.
I added some raffia and some old crochet bits that I had made previously. I also bought some battery-powered candles and I have to say they are brilliant! I was a little nervous when I ordered them because some battery candles can look really cheap! But these are so lifelike. They are made from real wax so they feel realistic and the flame actually moves. They are remote controlled and have different modes. They are one of my favourite things in our living room!
I’m happy with how my autumn display turned out and it makes the room look so cosy.
These are really really cute. My daughter is learning to sew so I think these would make a perfect project for her. I love the candles too!
