The Great Game Of Britain

I can’t think of anyone who loved trains nearly as much as my late father-in-law did. Craig’s dad lived and breathed steam trains bless him. He used to drive one in his younger years and even had a huge outdoor train track that ran around the edge of the garden! It was brilliant.
We have recently been sent The Great Game Of Britain from John Adams to try out and I just know Dave would have loved this!

The Great Game Of Britain Age 7+ Years

The great game of Britain is a classic race game along Britain’s historic railway networks. The aim of the game is to visit 6 places of interest and be the first player to return to London from where you set off. You travel on the railway networks as they were laid out in the age of steam travel.

What you get in the box –

• Playing board
• 60 hazard cards
• 36 souvenir cards
• 6 steam train playing pieces
• 12 counters (used as signals)
• 1x Die
• Die shaker

To start the game, each player chooses a steam train to represent them on the board. You shuffle the souvenir cards and deal six to each player. You all then take turns to move around the country and visit the places that are on your six souvenir cards. When you arrive at the station of your place of interest, you must announce that you are visiting and turn your souvenir card over.

When it is your turn, you roll the dice and you can then move along the railway network that you are on up to the number of stations that you have rolled. if you roll five, you can move either one, two, three, four or five stations. You can change the network you are travelling on by visiting an intersection and taking a hazard card. There are also ferries that you can take to reach Ireland, the Isle of Wight, France and the Hebrides.

Each player is also given two signal pieces. These pieces are placed at stations to close them in order to delay your opponents from visiting all of their places of interest.

The first player to successfully turn over all of their souvenir cards and return to London is the winner.

This game is not only great fun, but it also teaches children geographical skills.
