Choosing a forever home to put down roots, grow old, raise children and leave a legacy is a huge decision and might feel overwhelming. Think of a place you’d like to stay forever, a place where it’s safe and comfortable to raise kids. Look at the nearby schools and universities, career opportunities for yourself and your partner, and smaller details too like what restaurants and parks are nearby for you to enjoy.
The Price is Right
Once you know what areas you’d be happy to settle down in, start looking for homes that fit your budget and make sure that you can get approved for a home loan, and that whatever you commit to is actually realistic for you.
This might mean saving for a little longer or making compromises here are there. But ensuring that your financial future is safe and sound is important for your and your family’s wellbeing in the years to come. Struggling to pay your mortgage down the line because you budgeted poorly is not a position anyone wants to find themselves in.
Future-Proof
Before committing to any home, make sure you’ve thought about what you want for your future. Do you actually want to settle down or do you see yourself leaving the country? If you’re planning to relocate or move abroad, you may find yourself needing to sell your home fast and in a bit of a pickle.
