As you may know, we recently adopted a Staffy cross old tyme bulldog called Bruce and he is just a darling.
He clearly suffered abuse in his past life and was a little subdued as you would expect, but he is now very much loved and a big part of our family.
He’s funny, he’s goofy and it feels like he’s been with us for years. I can definitely recommend considering a rescue centre should you be thinking about getting a new pet.
Here are just 4 reasons out of many, why adopting a pet is a fantastic thing to do.

Providing a loving home

Whether you are welcoming a rescue horse into your stables, or a dog into your family home, adopting a pet gives them the second chance they deserve.
Animals who have been rescued often have endured unimaginable suffering and neglect. By adopting an animal in need, you are effectively giving them a lifeline. A chance to be happy and loved, just as they deserve.

They give unconditional love

I think the bond with any pet is beautiful but there is something special about building a bond with a rescue pet. I know our Bruce has so much love to give. He snuggles up with the kids on the sofa, he follows us around the house and he protects his home like you wouldn’t believe! Bruce takes his Neighbourhood Watch very seriously!

Cuts out puppy farms and unlawful breeders

Sadly there are still individuals out there that exploit animals to make a profit. Animals are kept in horrendous conditions, being bred time and time again. Animals who are sick receive no veterinary care and the list goes on, it is just awful.
Rescuing a dog means you won’t be funding illegal trades like these and hopefully stop it all together eventually.

Pets benefit your mental and physical health

Having a pet is beneficial in a number of ways. Here are just a few –

  • They bring happiness
  • Reduce stress levels and anxiety
  • They make great exercise buddies (depending on what you adopt!)
  • Companionship

Would you consider adopting a pet? Or perhaps you have already! I would love to hear about it in the comments.

  1. If anyone was to get a pet, I always recommend getting a rescue one. I hate. the the idea that dogs have been bred so much that some get ill so frequently and some even struggle to breathe
